MS said in an interview in MARCH that they were ready for a PS3 price drop.........so they ARE ready

PS3 demand is higher? yeah right, explain it selling less than anything else week after week

Facebook = 200 Million + people on it

@spartan fx

xbox 360 outsold ps3 by 3 million units last xmas I believe

Okay, fine.

1) Yes, they did say that. How do you know what they have planned is going to be any more effective?

2) PS3 demand is clearly higher, because the PS3 has always been more expensive than the 360, and yet through holiday 2007 and most of 2008, it was selling better. Not to mention the 360 outsells the PS3 by around 15k a week despite having half the entry price. In a recession.

3) Facebook has loads of people. You've been able to go on Facebook with the PS3 pretty much since launch. As well as the rest of the internet.

4) It depends what you define "Christmas" as. Presumably, it finishes when the year ends, when does it start? Let's say mid November.

http://vgchartz.com/hwcomps.php?cons1=&reg1=All&cons2=PS3&reg2=All&cons3=X360&reg3=All&start=39768&end=39810&weekly=1

So around 2 million. You really expect it to replicate the effects of a price cut that made it half the price of the competition, as compared to one that will make it marginally cheaper? They are not going to cut the price of the Elite by $100 ($150?), that is just ridiculous. The Slim and PS3 price cut are pretty much confirmed, we have no hard evidence for any Microsoft plans, other than an ambiguous statement in March.

Happy?

Why are out to get this thread locked? There is nowhere where I have insulted a console, its only SMASHED who's on a rant to prove xbox 360 = inferior & Ps3 = future

DEMAND = sales

Xbox 360 has sold more.......hence people want it more

Facebook for 360 will be ADVERTISED, people will think you can't go on it on Ps3 if its not advertise (remember we are talking about dumb consumers who don't research but see adverts & buy)

@smashed

so what if things in PS3 are superior, the GAMES AREN'T

See, this is why I didn't want to get into a debate.

I am out to get this thread locked because your conclusion is absurd, your reasons for that conclusion are more absurd, and most importantly, it's written in a manner clearly intended to rile people up. Therefore, it is trolling.

Demand is not sales. Demand is how much consumers want something. They will not necessarily buy that thing. There is lots of demand for Ferraris. A lot of people would buy a Ferrari if it was cheap enough. But they can't afford it, or aren't willing to spend that amount of money on a car. That is what is happening here. It's been proven that, at the same price, the PS3 will sell better. The 360 usually has a price advantage, which is why it will probably come in 2nd this generation.

Nobody wants a 360 for Facebook. That's just dumb. "Hey look Tyler, this awesome console has Gears of War and Halo and *etc*"

"Yeah, Jimmy, but I don't think we should get one"

"Hey look Tyler it has Facebook!"

"Holy shit, we need one now!"

Do you see that happening? Really?

Lolz, it would be epic and retarded at the same time if true!

Thought I say hey to everyone in this thread before it gets deleted and The Xbox Man gets banned again.

I was trying to think of another stereotypical college dropout American skater name as good as Tyler, but Jimmy was the best I could come up with.

Any ideas?

Why didn't you reply to Kantor?

Figures you got nothing else logical to say.. Your thread has absolutely not logic in it, at all.

It's all just trollish nonsense.

Trolling flamebait thread is of course trolling and causing flamebait.

Maybe after your break you can make a new thread with actual arguments instead of PS3 slim will look ugly and cost more since there's isn't even any official word on any of this nor real pictures of the PS3 "slim"

MaxwellGT2000 - "Does the amount of times you beat it count towards how hardcore you are?"

Wii Friend Code - 5882 9717 7391 0918 (PM me if you add me), PSN - MaxwellGT2000, XBL - BlkKniteCecil, MaxwellGT2000

Hmm lets see:

Console PS3 X360
Total
3,331,905
5,148,303

So the total difference was a little lower than 2M units.

Long term vs short term, in the short term you can have a massive spike in sales due to a price cut and in the longer term total revenue from hardware falls whenever the price is cut. Therefore a 25% cut for the PS3 in price given that both the PS3 and Xbox 360 will fall below these numbers without any other changes will likely show similar numbers for the PS3 12 months from now as the PS3 is currently selling now.

Now for the short term. The short term you would expect to see a large initial spike followed by a drop off as the pent up demand for a lower price point is satisfied. This is pretty similar to how a hyped games sales numbers drops over the following weeks, only we're interested in how much additional sales the PS3 gets over those weeks rather than the total sales. Since much of this initial boost is likely to happen outside of the 10 week holiday period it does make the comparison feasable.

In terms of the market the Christmas season is a relatively favourable one for the Xbox 360 always. There are 3 important favourable conditions for the Xbox 360 coming up to christmas. The proportion of sales made up by the Americas rises to over 50% which is their strongest territory. The entry level cost of the Arcade unit becomes the most important price as the sales of the Arcade start to make up proportionally 50-60% of overall sales as people look for cheap gifts and because they feel the pinch due to excessive spending which is inflamed further by the recession making people more fiscally conservative. Lastly the rest of the market which is the core market have pretty much already made up their mind as to which system they want to get and in the United States (which makes up a larger proportion for this period) it is the Xbox 360. Therefore the relative price of the Elite compared to the PS3 is irrelevant because that market has decided if they want an Xbox 360 or PS3 already and the people who haven't want the lower entry cost of the Arcade unit.

Could the Xbox 360 outsell the PS3 @ $299 by 2M units?

Well I would say perhaps three conditions need to be mostly met for that to occur.

1. The Arcade price must drop ~25% world-wide as this is the most important SKU for the undecided masses. The HDD upgrade must also fall to $75-80 which would make another clearly distinct price level @ $225/$229 which is distinctly cheaper than the PS3 (the old Premium)

2. They have to include excellent bundles which should be a given due to the expected high margins for the Elite SKU, 3 excellent games like Halo: ODST, Forza 3 and say Fable 2 would be absolutely smoking hot. Remember the cost of the console is the total cost out the door after you include games and controllers, cables etc.

3. The Elite would have to include wireless finally, they are doing a hardware revision and upping the HDD space to something like 320GB so seriously this is the time. Its to help the undecided few core gamers who are undecided due to a lack of this feature on the Xbox 360.

Remember people they would not drop the Premium SKU unless they believed it would create favourable circumstances to counter the PS3.

Tease.
