DLC IS the worst thing. All it offers is something that the mod community could have easily made for a charge. Skins, New levels, few new weapons, are not worth any money. I mean take a look at Neverwinter Nights. THere's a community expansion for free that is 3.5 gigs of stuff on it. I kid you not, 3.5 gigs.

If you want more content make an expansion, and not one a commmunity can make. Diablo II's Lord of Destruction is still the best expansion out there when it comes to value.

Have you played any of Fallout 3's DLC?  Hopefully, since it is kind of the point of this thread.  EAch one of them is an expansion and for 10 bucks a piece they are well worth it.  Bethesda does DLC better than anybody.  I would gladly pay the 10 bucks for one of Bethesda's huge DLC's than download a crappy community made garbage.  You aren't going to find a mothership theta quality community made content.

I'm not saying that mods aren't awesome, because they are.  However, when you make DLC as awesome as Bethesda does and charge a respectable price (10 bucks) you can't complain.  I agree that most DLC sucks which is the point of this thread.  Why can't other developers be more like Bethesda when it comes to DLC?

Combine the 3 expansions and that'd 30 bucks. That's a full blown expansion (in fact LoD cost 20) and yet they did NOT feel like a true expnsion at all. To explain, NWN's expansion took between 20-40 hours to finish, and those rapp mod modules were near top notch quality, for free. Don't even get me started on UT2004's mods. Alien Swar is a whole new game, again for free. Even WC3 has some, in fact DOTA is so popular they are expanding it into a game in and of itself. Again, for free. DLC is a shitty excuse to get more money. Give me a real expansion or GTFO.

I imagine a game like a cake.

Originally, you pay $50 and you get your cake.

Lately, it feels like you pay $50 and the baker gives you half the cake. You ask what's going on and the baker says you can buy each additional piece for $10.

So because the baker decides to make a more expensive cake, you get less for the same cost and now have to pay more to get it all. The cake you do get might taste a little better than the old cake, but you're still not getting as much for your money.

I don't mind being able to buy more cake at an additional price but when I plop down $50, I expect to get one full cake. The baker can sell me additional cakes or cupcakes afterward but I want a whole cake up front.

So... who's hungry?

I disagree, you used to get a whole chocolate cake for $50, but nowadays only half the cake is chocolate. The other half is magic stawberry, but this magic strawberry cake slice never ends - it just stays there no matter how much you eat. However, the baker has to keep putting money into making sure the magic strawberry keeps it's MP, he never used to have to pay for this but it's now the standard for the cake industry.

Thankfully to cope with the rising costs of the cake industry in general, as well the as constant cost of giving the magic strawberry cake ethers, he can charge you for extra chocolate sprinkes, more icing and other ways to enhance your cake that weren't ready when the cake was first baked. Not only does it make your cake taste sweeter but it keeps the baker in business, before he has to risk baking an entirely new cake.

Magic Strawberry = online :(.

But imagine if they had just put all of that into the game from the beginning. I think that DLC of this nature should be restricted to stuff that doesn't complete the story in a way that the original retail release probably should have.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

So you wish more developers put out unfinished, buggy, games with bad art design?

...and still be amazingly good.

if it were up to me, I would pick Bioware as the RPG company I'd want there to be more of...

Enjoy

Meh, I'd rather not see an increase of game stopping problems.

If more companies were like Bethesda, I would have to take up table tennis or some other hobby.

so you haven't played any of the fallout DLC?  there are actually 5 expansions out that add up to about 60 hours of aditional gameplay.  You can't get more of a expansion than that.  Also, LoD was not 20 bucks when it came out, it was 40.

screw Bethesta, and screws DLC that you have to pay for. I wish more companies were like Blizzard.

I LOVE ICELAND!
