Forums - Sales - Monster Hunter 3 first week numbers and Wii sales

It will get a second shipment. I've been looking at preorders for big games in Japan for a few years now and MH3 is the first game where preorders for a couple skus only went up 10-20% week one while another sku doubled. Seems to me that the Classic Controller + MH3 packages were dramatically undershipped, although Capcom nailed demand for the game by itself. The hardware bundle did well too...Wii did 23k in 7 days last week...call it 3.3k/day. It did 93k in seven days...so if did 3.3k for 5 days...16.1k...and then 77,000 over the last two days of the week (38,500/day).  Thats a 12 fold jump if you assume the 3.3k/day held up. Its more likely 3.3/3.7/4/5/7/40/30 or something but its still impressive by any measure.

Final Fantasy XIII doesn't seem to have much hype going at all in Japan yet. The preorders for it are barely in the top ten. It needs a release date before it will rise in preorders, and I'm sure it will do well but I don't think its inconceivable that FFXIII debuts to like 900k and gets to 1.3m lifetime in Japan, while MH3 debuts to almost 600k and could get to 1.3 lifetime.

Has the FFXIII preorder even started yet?

It (PS3's market share) might hit 30%, but definently not more. ~ Neo

MH3 is not a PSP game therefore will not have close to the legs of the PSP versions.

Yeah, because Wii games are famously front-loaded... RiGhT??!!??

Again, I have to agree with RPG on this.

For a game charging monthly fee to play, it won't have legs, let alone the legs like MHP2G.

Even if it "only" sells through its first shipment (which it is well on pace for) ... I'm sorry, but that's a big success.

The console market in Japan is so dead that there hasn't been even *ONE* console 3rd party game to cross 750,000 let alone 1 million.

Given that MH3 is a pay-to-play online-centric title on the Wii that really doesn't even use the Wiimote (that's pretty hardcore) ... 1 million is a minor miracle in itself IMO.

Comparing to FF13 is stupid, Final Fantasy is a franchise that has an established fan base built up over 20 years. MH is still an unproven franchise on the console side (previous console high was a decent but hardly spectacular 630k or so on the PS2). The Wii version already pretty much has matched the LTD sales of MH2 in just two days.

That bodes well for Monster Hunter 4 staying on the Wii brand IMO as well as potentially another MH3 expansion title on the Wii before that.

My prediction in the official thread:

Mine:

DQIX: FW= 2.2 million, LT= 4.4 million, HW on launch= 100k

MH3: FW= 450k, LT= 1 million, HW on launch= 80k

WSR: FW= 300k, LT= 2.5 million, HW on launch= 40k

I understimated everything except the hardware bump with WSR.

Do you know how much the preorders are at the moment for FFXIII by any chance?

On topic: Woo gears almost did 50k :)

and good week for wii hardware, if it can keep high numbers for the next month or so, that would be even better

good number
so sad for KOF 12

This game would made much more money when released on PS3. Capcom just made a mistake. This game will flop on Wii. Definitely.

yea honestly i didn't expect MH3 to sell 1 million in 1 month. Pretty strong chance Benga wins that one, nearly 600k and that was just 2 days. Still there may be a possibility it will barely fall short of that and take 5 weeks. We should have a really good idea by next week.

currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X

WOw these are some sexy numbers! And it sold so much only in 2 days, it will easily crack a million, and who knows maybe the game will become such hit as the PSP versions. It will be interesting to see what will be the second week drop. Soo... hardcore games can sell on the Wii?

Nice sales for the Wii as well, hopefully MH and WSR can sustain some nice numbers in Japan.

Previous one so far haven't even doubled it's first week sales.

We will see if MH3 with a paid for online gameplay can mantain legs like PSP version.
