It's not bad.

I find it funny, that Vgchartz cant admit, that they are wrong
yes the ps3 is undertracked and yes the psp is also undertracked
there cant be so many ps3s/psps on storeshelves...

I find it funny you are not complaining about the Wii... after all it has a bigger discrepancy between shipped and sold than the PS3.

The PSP I can understand your complaints... but it is not undertracked in the regions VGC tracks, it's just that the PSP does well in some East Asian countries that VGC gets very little data on. (mainly because it is easy to hack, as in the non-Japan Asian regions I think Sony's shipments for software are only slightly above 1:1 with the hardware)

Yes 1 million on shelves is not that unusual... stock can fluctuate between 1-2 months supply when things are going normally (for PS3 2 months supply is about 800k) but other things can affect it too, like perhaps Sony is shipping off some old stock in order to start shipping the PS3 slim which is almost no longer a rumour.

@Slimebeast

In 2006, Sony decided to start tracking how many consoles and games they sold all the way through to customers, not just to retailers (which is how most other companies record "sales").

I think it is you who wants to interpret something different.

There is also a very interesting tidbit: PS3 software: 189.7 million (all publishers, includes both retail and PSN titles)

If there is somewhere a LTD software sales number, it's possible to know how much PS3 software PSN has sold up to now.

Slimebeast is actually right on this one. Be careful how far you try to take this. I'm sure he's been proven right by this point anyway.

That blogger will probably end up posting a retraction on that one. :P

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

And of course we know, the amount of units retailers bought will be resold to consumers.

PS3 boxes are bigger than for the other consoles, so takes more storage per same amounts of consoles. Thus IMO it makes sense for retailers to either sell them quickly or order relatively few to bring down storage costs.

So in any case the PS3 has or will soon easily outsell the second best sold console of the previous console generation.

That's right and that's why it selling so bad... Soccermoms driving in their Fiat Punto's don't have the space to bring it home.. :(

Lol, but seriously I think retailers will stock more PS3s if the slimline retail box will be considerably smaller.

The local Media Markt usually only has about 20 max PS3s on the shelves, but hundreds of PSPs, PS2s, DSs and Wiis. The 360 takes somewhat middle ground, but a month ago I still noticed boxes with stickers covering up the holiday season money back deals (119 Euro including 19% taxes), suggesting relatively slow sales in my city.

PS3s are well protected in their large retail boxes, the console isn't really that big considering it has an internal power adapter (vs 360).

Naughty Dog: "At Naughty Dog, we're pretty sure we should be able to see leaps between games on the PS3 that are even bigger than they were on the PS2."

PS3 vs 360 sales

Sony can....overtrack, themselves?...*sigh*

Prediction:

TGS this year for PS3 will be amazing.

Grandia comes to PSN(PSone classic).

First Versus gameplay this year.

The Adventures Of Duane and Brando

Oh my. OP fails.

Retailers are Sony's consumers.

We (gamers) are not!

Now this is stupid. It is illegal for Sony to lie in their reports.

This number is correct, but spun well like every company reporting numbers.

And yet you take away the consumers, and no consoles would be around.
