Forums - Sony - One thing I can guarantee about PSP2...

Severely doubt that. PSX possibly, PS2 no way.

Well the current PSP emulates NES, SNES, GENESIS, DREAMCAST, N64, and PSone games(im sure nobody here knew that).. so.. im sure PS2 games will be emulated some day on the PSP.

As for the ps3 cant emulate ps2 games argument, well I honestly dont know why the newer ps3's cant, but mine does it fine and renders it at an upscaled HD resolution

The only thing that keeps the PS3 from emulating the PS2 is a lack of EDRAM. Neither the EE nor the GS is actually necessary, and the PS3 would emulate the PS2 just fine if they could just work around the issue of not having enough extremely fast ram. If the PSP2 uses that RAM as its system memory it won't have any issue at all.

You do not have the right to never be offended.

No it won't.

Only from PSN of course. You won't be able to fit a PS2 DVD inside whatever the PSP2 uses as storage (it will still have solid media- perhaps an SD card like the DS).

control schemes would be an issue

they can't put many more buttons onto a handheld

no hardware needed, its all software.
there are tons of PS2 emulators online.

And none of them are even close to perfect. Even the best one has its flaws, just like PS3's software emulation (80GB NTSC and 60GB PAL).

PS2 compatibility in PSP2? I doubt it. Unless Sony decides to make it a lot like PS2, of course. Then it will be possible but otherwise no - there's a reason why even PS3 can't do it (yet).

you obviously don't know much about emulation. The only reason your PS3 can emulate PS2 games is because PS2 hardware is inside it, in the 40 gig they removed the PS2 hardware completely and they couldn't emulate it anymore. Sony would pay millions to get BC back but they can't emulate it well enough. The question then becomes can you shrink the ps2 hardware enough to get it in the PSP2, i don't really know the answer to that. They can't emulate PS2 because it's too complicated, much like the Saturn or the xbox for that matter. I'm sure they can get partial emulation if they try hard enough, but probably no more than 50% of the games playable.

currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X

They would obviously have to download the games.

no the 80 gig ntsc and 60 gig pal both still had ps2 hardware, but they removed the emotion engine and used partial software emulation.  When they got rid of the rest of the hardware they couldn't get it to work anymore.

Why would SONY make a PS2 emulator foor PS3 and cut off PS2 HW sales?

I'm just curious....
