Forums - Sony - A 50$ price-cut just isn't enough

Well, you all know by now the rumours about the upcoming Ps3 Slim. But, whether it be 50 dollars cheaper or 100 will it make a big difference?

My guess is NO!

Coming in at 350, it is still way too expensive to compete with other consoles. So Sony has got to take extreme measures if their goal is to get ahead of Microsofts' sales.

Maybe they've been waiting so long because they know that a 50$ cut just won't do the trick and they're trying to make a really really big impact on the community with a larger cut. I guess a 50 dollar cut will very shortly raise their sales. A 100$ pricecut will have a larger impact, but still... 300 dollars... ouch on my budget.

(and not even mentioning the features (featureless) of the rumoured slim)

-$50 + Slim + Gran Turismo 5 = More Than Enough.

No carl its not, $349.99 is still too much for the average consumer to waste on a video game system

everyone loves the slim versions of the PS brand. I had a normal PS1 and when the slim version came out I bought a Slim PS1. I had a normal PS2 and when the slim version of that came out I bought a slim PS2. When the Slim PS3 comes out I will purchase one of those aswel. I know loads of people who are waiting for a slim PS3 and a price cut before they get a PS3. I' really think this will shift a lot of hardware

enough !! noone said its going to be 50 or 100 dollars cheaper, and ps3 is not just a video game system(see blu ray),nor is xbox, so its current price is good already. but cheaper is always good. in this economy it might seem expensive so what people need to know sony cant just drop the price because people want it. ps3 deserves to be at 400$ and sell good. its not doing bad just not good enough. and ask yourself Do i want a cheaper ps3 or a ps3 slim ??

Best Value in the whole market, not just gaming !

Christmas will give a boost.
Slimline will bring attention back to the system, and also will confirm Sony will finally be making a profit. This will bring advertising from Sony, finally.
A $50/(whatever currency) pricecut would bring more advertisement from retailers.
Gran Turismo is the biggest system seller Sony have, a $50 cut with a Slim at Christmas, along with one of the worlds biggest franchises, would be enough.

Also, almost 23 million people have seen fit to "waste" $400 on a games system. What makes you think they wont want one for $350?

eh, those consumers already have one, i don't think they will all be buying a second ps3.

OT: even if they would make a miniature Ps3, a 50 dollar pricecut won't help. People will always be comparing it to the 360, and Blu-ray standalones are already cheaper and will be getting cheaper.

Perhaps it is just me, but I could give a rats ass about a slim model. I love my big shiny black chrome baby. It looks really nice right next to my awesome 360 elite. (Now just let me trade in my Wii for the Black one Nintendo)!

I agree with Leo-J, if the model is not at least dropped to $299, I still see it struggling in sales. We have all read Sony financial statements........it is not looking good and points less and less to the $299 and more towards the $350. Personally, I would not be surprised to see (Big Sexy) drop to $350, and the slim to be priced at $399.

(IMO) A slim model teamed with FFXIII in Japan will move more consoles, and probably put it above the Wii for a while. But unless the (Big Sexy) drops by $100 it is going to sell less than or equal to the 360 this holiday, even with GT5. The 360 line-up is really good this holiday too.

If the Wii gets the rumored $50 price cut for the holiday........well........you already know.

A PS3 is a waste of money?

You are such a 360 fanboy!
