I think you mean premature. They should have released that thing in mid 2008.
This is why sony took away backwards compatibility...
PS2 at 99 bucks = profit
PS3 at 399...not so much.

It isn't. It rightfully blows the PS3, PSP, and 360 to hell.
There must be a lot of new PS2's sitting on shop shelves, or VGC has totally undertracked PS2 sales by a huge margin, because by VGC reckoning PS3, 360 and PSP have all outsold PS2 (to consumers) over this period http://vgchartz.com/hwcomps.php?cons1=PS2®1=All&cons2=PS3®2=All&cons3=X360®3=All&start=39901&end=39999&weekly=1
PS2 @ about 1 million (pretty darn good still), 360 just shy of 3 million and PS3 about 2.5 million.

"When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace."

PS2 isnt tracked well..
the PS2 with these numbers is just under 140 million, vgchartz has it at 125 million..

Truth to the max. What can rival it, maybe SNES?
