And I don't just mean epic in length, although I suppose I do my share to keep that end up (hi appolose).
I mean threads that were so incredibly good (or bad) that they loom large in the memories of participants, or at least produce an "Oh yeah, that was great!" when recollected.
I was going through my bookmarks (which are legion) and it seemed to me that the first 20,000 threads on the site were thick with these. Sure, I have roughly similar numbers from more recent times, but they just don't seem ... as epic.
Below, I've tried to include a few real highlights, while avoiding stuff that I care about way more than other people (even the ones who were there).
Page numbers assume 50 posts per page.
ALSO PLEASE DO NOT NECRO THESE THREADS UNLESS YOU HAVE A REALLY, REALLY, REALLY GOOD REASON.
Can anyone who was there forget the deathless thread title "Nintendomination at an end?"
Can there BE a thread more epic than RolStoppable's first TRol post? ("I have lost faith in the Wii and its future")
(At least I'm pretty sure it's his first, based on all the "no way this is really Rol" comments)
CrazzyMan's magnum opus: "PS2 2001 sales numbers vs PS3 2008 sales numbers =)"
and: "ALL marioboys bought SMG and Wii? Or speculations made on SMG and SMS sales"
(Unfortunately, he just got permabanned (or for a year anyway), so you'll have to scroll down to posts where people quoted CrazzyMan to see what he said without sifting through his Post History.)
Then there were a few threads about the infamous iSuppli report ("iSuppli's console sales numbers and forecasts (or "WTF, is this for real?")")
And what kind of "epic VGChartz threads" list could be complete without something from johnlucas?
"4.1 — Nintendo's number to remember"
(No, he doesn't mean "4.1 Nintendo consoles per human being in Japan", he means "4.1 million per month in calendar year 2008", which was almost double what VGC now reports, IIRC.)
I'll leave you with a picture NJ5 made. I don't remember offhand when and where exactly he made it -- but I'm sure those of us who were around at the time can remember exactly why.
WHY DON'T THEY JUST PRESS THE BUTTON?

My advice to fanboys: Brag about stuff that's true, not about stuff that's false. Predict stuff that's likely, not stuff that's unlikely. You will be happier, and we will be happier.

I have the most epic death scene ever in VGChartz Mafia. Thanks WordsofWisdom!
