Forums - Sony - Sony Sign Bungie As Second Party?

I bet you it will never happen. Microsoft would never ever allow it. MS has enough dough to buy Sony 10 times over.
Bungie is too valuable to MS to be bought up by its main adversary in the console gaming industry.

this is one dumb thread

That was the most sane post so far in this thread

I think EA will sign them to try and counter Activision and Infinity Ward.

...if their next project is an FPS, that is.

It doesn't matter as Sony fans wouldn't want bungie as a Sony dev.
They've on countless times proven how boring and crap Halo is.

Umm I guess u werent here when they spilit on bad terms....plus it looks like MS has moved on ( with the halo-focused 343 industries.).

lol I guess you missed the part where Bungie is making MS two more exclusive games and still has a very close relationship with MS. Also could the op please explain to me how Sony is the only company that can afford Bungie? Not to mention MS has exclusive first right to publish any Bungie games and only after they pass up on the offer can Bungie move on to another publisher as according to the terms to their split. Seriously these fanboy driven threads are tiresome.

Whats wrong with Microsoft wouldn't they be all over that?

um, how could microsoft and bungie have split on bad terms?  Microsoft OWNED them and then let them have their independence because they wanted it.  If it had been on bad terms microsoft probably wouldn't have let them go.

As for 343 industries, that was formed because bungie didn't want to do halo anymore.  This project they are talking about isn't a halo project, but I'm sure microsoft is still interested in it.

I'm sure the publisher is microsoft, when they seperated they gave microsoft the right of first refusal, so unless microsoft passed on it, the publisher will be microsoft.

YEs finally bungie would get a budget to make great games.

Firstly, Bungie don't want to be bought.

Secondly, their unpublished game will probably go to Microsoft. If not, then Activision or EA. Sony is EXTREMELY unlikely.

I don't think you truly comprehend what exactly a publisher does. A publisher is not a producer. In other words they are not funding a project. Nor are they buying a company. A publisher is basically a intermediary for a smaller studio that handles tasks such as marketing, production, distribution, and legal matters. For a percentage of the profit generated.

Smaller developers use publishers, because they have both the experience and the resources to bring a game to market. A smaller developer cannot afford to have dedicated marketing, legal, and business departments. For one thing they would sit idle, but would need to be maintained to get the job done when it comes time.

Publishers have this staff, and are constantly using them to publish their own titles, or the titles of smaller developers. To put it simply publishers are middle men for small developers who by their nature cannot afford to do all these things themselves.

Speaking to whom. I believe Microsoft has first right publishing status. So if it isn't settled then it probably isn't Microsoft. Either they doubt the value of the product, did not like the offer on the table, or it isn't in their interest in that it is a cross platform title, or for a platform not their own.

Speaking to Sony I highly doubt this. Your figuring is all fucked up. Firstly if it is for multiple platforms it isn't in their interest to publish games on another console. Secondly if Bungie is going to stick to their preferred platforms it really isn't in the interest of Sony. Thirdly Sony isn't the publishing Juggernaut that you think it is. Their marketing muscle is extremely atrophied. In other words they are not even doing a good job with games they produced. Fourthly there is no coup to be had here unless they actually take something away from Microsoft, and once again that isn't what publishing is really about. Bungie doesn't need funding to develop their games. Especially when their next two games are bound to rake in cash.

My two cents are that it will be Electronic Arts. They have the incentive, and are likely to give Bungie a great deal, and they do not even have to care what platform or platforms the title would be on. More to the point they need a strong showing in the genre that Bungie is known for.

1. Whats your source...for anything that you've said?
2. Sony can't secure TMNT and MvsC2 on PSN at the same time as MS can on xbox live...what makes you think they can do something massive like take Bungie from MS and make them exclusive?
3. Bungie has 2 more 360 projects in the works...so the earliest Sony could secure them as exclusive is 2010

2.  I'm pretty sure it's not because Sony can't afford to secure TMNT and MvsC2, it's because they didn't deem it worth it to overspend on 2 old remakes as exclusives.  2nd, Sony is not taking Bungie from MS.  After Bungie is done with Halo ODST and Halo Reach, they're an independant developer who can sign with anyone.  Sony won't be taking Bungie from anyone.  Bungie can choose to work on separate projects for Sony, MS, and Nintendo; just like any other independant developer can.
