Forums - General Discussion - WATCHMEN is not a good movie.

Get over it. Its a Novel to Movie transition, and just like any other ones (Harry Potter, Narnia, Twilight) you get a better experience and understand if you read the novel. That being said, if you read the novel, while you would understand the movie fully, you wouldn't be awe inspired by it either because its a direct transition except for the ending.

But by your criticism, it just seems like you're an immature moviegoer who expected the next Dark Knight.

I had no expectations really. I went to the store to rent a movie and figured Id rent it.

Immature moviegoer? Please. Save your pety little insults for someone who cares. Read professional critics reviews and they are bashing this movie even worse than I am.

Read your criticisms. You complained about the sex scenes, the lack of superpowers, the movie length (which was actually perfect due to the immense story), and had only "10 minutes of special effects". I can see not understanding the story since many things were left out, but the basic premise should have still been seen and appreciated, but your critique is very superficial.

The movie was weak because the source material only works as a graphic novel that can be read at leisure over an extended period of time.

It should never have been made at all.

And I completely disagree that 3 hour movies can't work.

lol well the comment on the nude scenes isnt superficial. It's a legit critisism of the movie.

Seriously, who did the directors think was going to watch the movie? Mostly males aged 16-35. What made them think that we'd want to see a naked male? It's not like it's just a quick 2 second shot that people can shake off. They blatantly show his glowing blue cock for a long period of time to a point where you have to look away from the screen.

"-Watchmen had a very good marketing campaign, decent cinematography, and nice special effects. Those are the only good things I can say about this movie."

That can be said about 99% of movies, but I personally think this one was great.

"-3 hours is way too long for any movie. If you can't wrap up the story in 2 hours, you're just dragging on. Watchmen was 3 hours of bullshit with 10 minutes worth of special effects."

I agree on 3 hours being a long time to sit there watching a movie. In fact I sometimes have a hard time sitting there for 90 minutes. You know what I do? I stop the movie and continue it later. That's why I hate going to the theater.

"-The premise of the movie is that Comedian gets killed and then they investigate what happened. However, WHY should any viewer care about the Comedian getting killed? The movie made no effort to get fans to have any sort of attachment or sympathy for Comedian at all. Who gives a fuck if he got thrown out of the window."

As the movie goes on you actually learn what an asshole the Comedian was. You just assume he's a good guy because he was a superhero.

"-I didn't fully understand the story. No, dont blame me. It's the directors fault for not properly conveying the story. It's the directors fault for losing my attention so quickly. By the time they got around to the part in Antartica I was already falling asleep and thinking "damnit, when is this bullshit gonna end?"."

Like I said, you should have stopped the movie when you became fatigued.

"-Weak characters and character development. Super Heros with no super powers? Dr Manhatten is the only one with powers but he has no personality at all. He's a nerdy physicist with no personality."

Not every superhero can compare to Spiderman and Wolverine. In fact there is a ton of lame characters in the DC and Marvel roster.

"-The first part of the movie is a fancy music video. Instead of developing the story and characters, it comes across as a **** music video. Are you kidding me?"

I actually love how the beginning was done. It doesn't take a genius to figure out what's happening.

"-A nude scene with a flat chested chick. That's it?!?! There was more glowing blue cock in this film than tits. Youd think with the amount of Dr Manhattens crotch they were willing to show, they'd balance it out by showing some more tits."

I barely even noticed the blue penis. Its about as tasteful as a penis shot could be. If you're concerned with tits I recommend watching porn.

You're entitled to your opinion, but your thoughts on this movie are dumb. I recommend you watch the Wolverine movie. That's a very simple and penis free movie.

Maybe the directors didn't realize you'd be so traumatized by seeing a penis. Perhaps if it was erect and flopping around I would agree.

By the way... don't watch Bruno. You might miss the comedy because you're too concerned about seeing a penis.

You must be a hard core typical american with no attention span beyond an hour and a half for movies. I never read the graphic novel and I loved the movie and I understood the messages in the film clearly. It wasn't just about the comedian dying. It was about the world falling into chaos and the old heros are getting picked off. Plus add on the threat of nuclear war dooming the earth. If you can open up you're mind past the typical american film, you can see great things and haunting things in this movie.

I watched it on DVD after seeing it in theaters.

My second watching was more favorable. Initially, I would have given it a 6.5-7.0, but now it gets a 7.5-8.0. Solid, but not spectacular. Zack Snyder is a great director, but I think the source material was just too by-the-book.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

It was ok, IMHO. It was definitely too long - and at the end, I walked away like 'Will this have a sequel?' It started off ok and to me, went downhill. And the makeout scene - was ai'te - loved her boots - but totally didn't fit into the movie at all.

It seemed like one big mashup at the end. And that fool heading to Mars? Why? It was all over the place and had some good points, but can't compare to X-Men, X2, Iron Man and definitely not Dark Knight. If I were a studio, I'd be looking for a partial refund.
