Forums - Nintendo - Possible to play ToS:DotNW without playing ToS?

I am going to need a Wii game to play once I am done with all the chapters in FFIV: The After Years and I am considering ToS: DotNW.

Now I own the original ToS for the Gamecube but for some reason I have a very hard time getting into it. I only made it as far as that angel (?) in the Fire Temple very early in the game and the voice acting and everything just turned me away almost instantly. Yes I know I should give it a shot because I have heard a lot of great things about it. I actually only bought the game because Zenfolder suggested it to me.

Now what I really want to know though is this. Would it be possible to play DotNW without having played the first game? If so, would I get lost in the storyline and not understand some things?

I know somethings would be a bit strange playing this first if I ever go back to playing the original but after playing ToV I don't know if I can go back to the older system (yes I know I am technically doing that here).

Also does the game have VA during skits like ToV or is it all text like in ToS on the GC?

Sorry for all of these questions, I know it will be a while before I finish FFIV TAY because I only just now started Kain's section but I know eventually I will need something to play and I think this is the best JRPG on the Wii right?

Just to add. It is a bit depressing having no singing in the opening video like there was in ToV.

Who am I to complain though? I am finally playing with my Wii! (Yes, I know that sounds a bit odd)

They have voices in the skits but you will go insane from the voices that you will be in extreme pain...only Eternal Sonata can be more painful..
For getting lost no but you won't be able to understand some things...

Former something....

I think ToS had no voice in skits, so skits in this one is a big plus for me.

I might try to give it another shot but can't promise anything. To be honest I found Abyss to be much more interesting, yet I stopped playing that one too.

Vesperia has been the only one that kept my interest. YOU need to go play that Soriku.

And you call yourself a Tales fan.

By the way...

The looks plus his horrible VA made me feel like I should have played the game when I was like 12.

You can definitely play ToS2 without playing ToS and without getting confused. But since ToS is supposedly a lot better than ToS2 it may not be the best idea.

There are voices in the skits in ToS2, and there are only a few annoying voices. Sadly one of these is the main character, but c'est la vie.

If you want a Wii game I suggest Little King's Story over ToS2, it isn't as long, but it is better.

go ahead, you won't miss much anyway. there, I said it.

the words above were backed by NUCLEAR WEAPONS!

Too lazy to check so I apologize, but does this game have JP language option?

If so, will that help or is this character like MaruMaru in Blue Dragon where the only way to save your ears is to hit the mute button and put on subtitles?

I do not think the game had JP language option. There is no character whose voice is piercing and isn't listenable, just one that's extremely whiny and annoying.

...

Alright, I guess I could deal with that.

Thanks a lot everyone.

For some moments you wouldn´t understand anything because they are talking about things from the first game but I liked ToS2 WAY more than ToS.
