After all, they need to make it different from the usual wiimote... otherwise people will just get confused.

 

Maybe nintendo release a new SKU for christmas, like "Wii Plus"

The only reason for not doing this would be if Nintendo is not fully committed to making M+ the new standard for Wii controls.

Don't assume there is only one reason. That's the kind of limited thinking Nintendo has been against for years.



A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

I think it will be supported just for the fact that it improves the motion control tracking.



I don't see any reason for WSR to not sell at least as good as Wii Play. It already has an attach rate of 13.75% in Japan after 3 weeks on shelfs which I find amazing.

I also see no reason to compare it to the balance board or wii speak. Both are peripherals which can be used only with a low number of games while the WM+ can enhance virtually ANY game more or less.

If they support it like their previous peripherals then every game that needs to use that peripheral will and the games that don't wont.  Simple easy and there's still a ton of third party support.  The only way you seem to be satisfied is if Nintendo brought out at least 3 games every month 2 that support one of their peripherals and one traditional game. 

It's just unneeded whining, I have a nice selection of games to use with my balance board, just like my Wii Zapper (though I bought the superior nyko blaster), now more games are coming for my Wii Speak, and to top it off I have two awesome WM+ games to play and come Sunday will have a third, with more support coming like Red Steel 2.

Not every game HAS to support it to have good support for these add-ons but typically if it seems like common sense to use it then it's used and most people are happy with that.

It would unquestionably mean they have no intention of it being the default control scheme. There's really no debate to be had there. Unless you'd like to take the stance that Nintendo wants or will even require developers to program for M+ and they want or will require all users to buy M+ separately, but that it's not actually necessary to do so.

If this is the case and it's not to be the new standard for Wii controls, then it is simply an additional but unnecessary control option for consumers to either buy or skip. And additional options have been the way of Nintendo thinking dating all the back to the NES. The Power Glove was optional as was ROB the robot and the Power Pad.

But frankly, not all games need it anyway. I'd even argue that a sizable percentage of Wii games really don't benefit from the addition of motion controls. For the most part, added motion control schemes should simply make play more accessibly and simplified for a broader audience.

Jesus, i cant go back to waggle.

The fact is that the modern type of game is getting too old for its own good:

 

- Think about it: games are getting prettier and prettier... and yet they still play like 10 years ago. Can you belive a single game still uses QTE at this day and age? Almost ALL of the big games still use it.  For me its pretty unbeliveble, QTE is a crime

- HUGE hardcore games are released every month... yet they all die few days after release: none stands as something unique

- Modern Warfare 2? Assassins Creed 2? Uncharted 2? zzzzz, wake me up when something NEW shows up.

 

Motion control can REALLY change this. GOOD motion control, 1-on-1

You can change the comon game genres, and create new ones.

 

 

 

 



QTEs typically makes me grimace every time I see them, not that they don't have their place. Namely when the director wants to insert an impressive cinematic cut that falls outside of the standard moves and animations with a locked, dramatic camera angle. Basically mini interactive cut scenes.

It's only when QTEs are abused too often and used as a substitute for standard game play that they really begin to limit the whole interactive part of the gaming experience.

As for all the sequels, they exist for the best reason of all: they sell. You simply can't introduce a new IP every time you develop a game and expect to stay in the game making business barring the smaller pool of independent developers who aren't focused on big profits so much as they are being able to continue making their next game. It's only when a franchise stops selling that the sequels stop. The millions of fans of franchises eagerly awaiting the next game in the series would seem to agree, they will continue to buy more of what they like.

And realistically, Natal style motion controls are not the be all end all of ultimate controllers. They just aren't.

I count myself among the many who don't want to pantomime driving a car with an invisible steering wheel, stick shift and floor pedals, invisible "finger" hand guns, invisible flight sticks, invisible swords, air guitars, ad nauseam.

It's entirely up to the developers to come up with engaging ways to create game play using upcoming interfaces but to say that they instantly replace all other forms of now "obsolete" input sounds a lot like those who made the same claim when Wii Sports was released. It's been almost three years and I am still seeing a sea of games on that platform that have not lived up to the motion control revolution.

I expect to see a lot of interesting experimental projects for Natal, many of which I'll be playing, but also a sea of spastic flail-fests if it catches on like the Wii.

As for M+, call me a skeptic, but until we start seeing more killer apps like Sports Resort that make good use of the dongle add on, it's just another peripheral that gives additional interface options for developers. Wii M+ = Wii 2.0 remains to be proven.
