IIRC, one report said that Nintendo had a DS successor ready to go, but tabled it due to the success of the DSi. This seems plausible enough -certainly Nintendo has been working on a successor- but it would also seem to indicate that the DS probably has at least another 2 years before a successor is even announced, and likely another year or two after that.

GameBoy was 1989-1998 (2001 for Color), for 118 M. sales. 9 years (12 years woth Color)

13 YEARS GAP BETWEEN

GameBoy Advance was 2001-2008. 7 years, for 80 M. sales.

4 YEARS GAP BETWEEN

DS was realesead in end 2004 and is already at 105 M in 5 years.

I would say 2012-2013 for new announce, and end of DS around 2015 ?

Eventually, unless they go out of business first. It's in the nature of video game systems to die out in due time. The only difference is how long "due time" takes.

I think the DS will last for a little over 9-10 years. Hell, like stated above the original gameboy lasted about 13.

The longer the better. Handhelds are starting to see their limits graphically, and control wise the DS is almost perfect. I have no reason to buy a new handheld, and would much rather have more games for the DS. I could see a successor releasing two years from now though. The DS will still last for a another 4 years after that.

IMO DS's successor will be released in 2014

The DS still has a few more years in it I'm sure. I think 2011 at the earliest, maybe 2012.
