IIRC, one report said that Nintendo had a DS successor ready to go, but tabled it due to the success of the DSi. This seems plausible enough -certainly Nintendo has been working on a successor- but it would also seem to indicate that the DS probably has at least another 2 years before a successor is even announced, and likely another year or two after that.
