There's also that no other publisher would've marketed the game as heavily as Sony.  They turned it into on of their biggest 2007 first party releases (I'd say it was probably third, behind Uncharted and God of War II). 

I wonder if it were released today if the outcome would be different?

I think sales for Tekken would be a suitable benchmark.

i dont think so, resident evil 5 and street fighter 4 released this year also sold more on the ps3.

Heavenly Sword was awesome. The one and only thing wrong with it was that there wasn't enough of it, in my book.

A sequel.. heck a trilogy.. would be fantastic.

Was originally planned as a trilogy (if i remember correctly)

 

But since #2 was scrapped, for the time being...not looking good.
