Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Wii Fit sales in 2009?

How much has Wii Fit sold so far in 2009? As far as I can tell, it's close to 5 million units, but I'm not sure I got it right.

Do you think Wii Fit has a chance of being the best selling game of 2009?

I am sure Wii Fit will be the best selling game in 2009

I think Wii Sports Resort or CoD: Modern Warfare II will be this years highest selling games (probably CoD, its on three platforms after all and comes out in perfect time for the holidays).

COD might not have enough time if fit speeds up enough at holiday season

^click the license to level it up! Please, and thanks in advance!

Much more than that. According to our yearly worldwide charts it has sold just over 7.3 million this year around the world.

Comparatively, last year in 2008 it sold over 12 million copies. It's quite possible it could out do last year's numbers considering we still have holiday season. Although, who knows how it'll sell along side Wii Fit Plus.

What I find even more amazing is Wii Fit has a 40% lifetime attach ratio to the Wii. Even more so, this year it has sold almost as much as the Wii has. Wii Fit, may very well be, the biggest game to ever release... ever. With that pricetag, that amount of sales, and those kinds of attach ratios, the gaming industry has really never seen a phenomenon as large as this.

I try not to troll here, but IMO Wii Fit is not a game.
It's a piece of hardware with user manual.

Possible although I would take VGChartz numbers with a grain of salt.

NPD has Wii Fit selling 3.06 millions units for the first 6 months of 2009.

VGChartz has the game selling 3.81 millions units for the same period for NA.

Even if you remove Canada sales, Wii fit sales are probably overtracked by 500k .....

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

Then you obviously haven't played it.

Having put in more then 140 hours on my WiiFit I have to agree with Barozi. WiiFit is essentially a balance board with a tech demo and user manual. Essentially a lady or guy on screen tells you how to excersize on your balance board, and the few tech demo's aren't good enough to qualify as a solid game.

Its essentially another over glorified tech demo that has the Wii Balance board as an exclusive feature. That being said I've already pre-ordered Plus at my local EBGames and am looking forward to excersizing this fall. I'm starting to get pretty fat I need a new game to motivate me! WiiFit motivates you to get in shape you have to play a certain amount of time to unlock all of its features, pushing you to excersize more.

Nintendo said themselves, who woulda thought that we'd be selling a bathroom scale to gamers across the globe. That is in essence what Wii fit is, A bathroom scale with a how to manual and a couple tech demo's! Also anyone who doesn't have WiiFit yet should go buy Plus when it arrives, you won't regret it!

Also I think this fall WiiFit won't actually be all that effected by WiiFitPlus. Why?

Because to be honest WiiFit is only now sticking to store shelves, about a month ago it was impossible to find a copy in any store anywhere in Canada. But now I see them in Rogers , Walmart , Zellers, EBGames, Willow Video Games. They are everywhere which means Nintendo is only now meeting the amazing demand. So what does this have to do with it selling well this holiday season despite WiiFitPlus. Thats easy, WiiFitPlus will be in short supply this fall either do to overwhelming demand or because Nintendo purposely withholds hardware. So with WiiFitPlus being in such short demand gamers who don't own WiiFit will buy it instead. I can guarantee that casual gamers will not know the different between WiiFitPlus and WiiFit, they'll look at their Christmas lists and purchase WiiFit in lou of WFP.

Essentially their will be a shortage of WiiFitPlus this holiday season which should allow WiiFit to sell fairly well this holiday season. Though I do think Nintendo will phase out WiiFit starting next year. Making WiiFitPlus the only balance board hardware on the market!
