Hmmm, not sure what people class as major exclusives. Isn't demon Souls from From Software? And hasn't the reception of Previews been similar to Ninja Blade?

And did anybody really expect MAG to release this year?

Yes, Demon's Souls is from From Software. As for reception...

Ninja Blade Eurogamer: 7/10

Demon's Souls Eurogamer: 9/10

Demon's Souls RPGFan: 84%

Demon's Souls Famitsu (lol): 9 7 7 6

Dengeki: 95 85 85 85

PSW Magazine: 9/10

PixelVerdict: 5/5

GamerLimit: 9.1/10

So really, other than Famitsulol, Demon's Souls' reviews have been overwhelmingly positive. Let's take the average of the reviews.

90 + 84 + 72.5 + 87.5 + 90 + 100 + 91 = 625 / 7 = 89.28%

Ninja Blade on Metacritic: 68%

So...

As for MAG, yes, pretty much everyone expected it to release this year, since Sony said so.

EDIT: So you don't think I'm cherrypicking, those are the only reviews on Wikipedia, and Metacritic doesn't even have a page for Demon's Souls yet.

Maybe Sony is just delaying many of their first party games to ensure quality. That's what you want to do when you have to rely on first party games to move hardware. Nintendo does it all the time. Sony has learned the hard way that they can't just rely on third parties to move hardware, and now they are doing like Nintendo has always done. Make sure that their first party games are good, even if it means extra time.

Makes sense, why release hardware moving games at the time of the year when the majority of hardware is sold?  Just wait a month after Christmas to release your big game where it'll have next to no impact on hardware sales.

This is from an article about why Blizzard is so sucessful.

"Quick work doesn’t mean that Blizzard will introduce a game before it’s ready, said Blizzard PR representative Bob Colayco. As evidence, he noted the release date of Diablo at the end of December 1996. Because Blizzard insisted on getting the game right, it missed the entire holiday shopping season, he said."

Good games doesn't have to be released on a specific date to sell. Quality is way more important than when the games is released, it is much more coustomer-friendly to release finished games late, than unfinished games in a period when they will sell, because then interrest will fade much quicker. I really hope that Sony has learned that lession, because they need to learn it. (And judging from all their delays, maybe they have)

Well Blizzard doesn't have to worry about moving hardware since there are hundreds of millions of PCs out there.  It's great that some companies have the luxury of delaying their games by a few weeks and missing the crucial holiday season but if Sony is relying on first-party games released in the first half of the year to move hardware then no wonder they're in trouble.  There's a reason why Microsoft is releasing Halo 3: ODST near the end of September and why they released Gears of War 1, Halo 3, and Gears of War 2 when they did.

Another company that very often delays their games to ensure quality is Nintendo. They have done it plenty of times. Ocarina of Time is the prime example, and you know how that game turned out. I'm sure there is a reason as to why game companies rushed those games out, but was it the right thing to do? Was it the right thing to do for the consoumer?

(sorry about the long quote list, I don't know how to remove old quotes)

Whole bunch of people above me seem to be using it as a yardstick for crappyness.

All I know is that Ninja Blade was more fun and original than most high profile games released this year like Resident Evil 5... Demon Soul will be lucky to be as good.

It does re-use some in game textures though...so it can't score more than 68% on meta right?

Gran Turismo 5 will be released in november. That game alone will kill everything in sales.

That makes for this year only as major exclusive games :

- Already released :
killzone 2

- To be released :
Uncharted 2, Demon Soul's, Gran Turismo 5, Ratchet : a crack in time

And I don't even talk about gems like Infamous, Flower, Wipeout Fury or MLB09 (AAA)...

Looks like the best next gen lineup this year. Nothing different from last year in my opinion.

Sony clearly doesn't need MAG or Heavy Rain, or GoW3... 2010 could be even more stellar though, since those games are coming along with FF13.

Modern Warfare 2 would eat up all of it's sales, i think it's kinda funny how other FPS companies are scared of Modern Warfare 2.

This. MW2 is so good it's a genre of its own.

You know that if Half-Life 2: Episode 3 was released Activision would probably delay MW2 right?

Half life 3 would be a lot nig on pc not so much on consoles. So there MW2 would kill Half Life 3 in console sales.

I don't think so man. HL2 is amazing but most of its following is on the PC. Looking at how orange box did indicates that Codemasters probably wouldn't have to delay console version of Legendary part 2 (if they decided to make it) if HL3 is coming out.
