Forums - Nintendo - IGN Review: Wii Sports Resort. Right in the middle

Considering that the best game of this generation has a 76.51 on gamerankings, This really doesn't mean anything.

Oh yeah, the best game of this generation is Wii Sports.

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

I think people focus too heavily on the features of a game rather than the quality of a game when they review them, which is why I have seen so many people have such completely different reactions to games than their review score would indicate ...

I could be wrong, but I have a growing feeling that reviewers don't tend to be able to put much time when they're reviewing a game in local multiplayer because of lack of  people to play with which is why certain games seem to get "unfair" reviews; and can explain why so many people still buy these "poor" quality games. For many people playing games on the Wii is a very social event and they're often playing with 3 or more other people so how enjoyable a game is in a local multiplayer setting is all that matters ...

So...7.7. That's less than an 8. Are IGN "haters" now?

Your criteria for "best game of this generation" stinks.

This game could have gotten a 1.1 and it wouldn't matter. The people that are/will buying/buy WSR don't refer to game reviews. They see ads on tv and buy. They see Oprah playing the game, they see a huge island in the middle of Times Square and buy the game.

Sorry guys but I think that no online multiplayer on a premier title such as this is just inexcusable at this point. I can guarantee that the majority of Sony/MS developed games will include online modes from now on unless it is a 40+ hour RPG or something and even then it might.

Big N has a TON of money to invest in online at this point but they are cheap and don't want to go beyond renting out Gamespy's servers which it turns out are woefully inadequate if The Conduit is any indication.

Punch-Out! should have had an online mode where you could play as any character and specials require a meter to fill up to use. NSMB not having online after Little Big Planet did 4 player online platforming last year is ridiculous, and Wii Sport Resort not having an online multiplayer is ridiculous as well.

I think Nintendo made a smart move releasing an affordable console with focus on control rather than graphics since the majority of the world had not jumped on the HD bandwagon at the console's launch. Nintendo may be laughing all the way to the bank now but they may not be able to rely on their blue/red ocean audience to buy their console next gen and they have alienated a large number of their core audience with their lackadaisical approach to online this gen. Also, it is pretty obvious at this point that despite the lead in number of users, games on the HD consoles just sell better because casual gamers buy far less software.

Why did it take so long to finally release a storage solution? Since there is a solution now why aren't they patching games with bugs and offering more DLC? Why does it take forever for games to come out on the VC/Wiiware? Why isn't there a headset solution? Why do they cling to friend codes when it is pretty obvious that they alienate gamers and are difficult to use for casual gamers interested in online?

Uh oh...you shouldn't have went there. RE5 may have outsold RE:Wii (both renditions), CoD HD may have outsold CoD Wii, and new IPs like Dead Space, Mirror's Edge, and Assassin's Creed (when it came out) may have outsold new Wii IPs, like MadWorld, Zack and Wiki, and NMH....but don't you DARE generalize. Mario (which has always sold extremely well, no matter what position a Nintendo console has been in) has sold, SURPRISE, many, many millions of units!

Edit: And to that last paragraph, the answer is simple: They don't care. Because the PS3 was in last place, they pretty much were at the whim of the users (reason why in game XMB and Trophies were even introduced). M$ was at the whim of their users because of their hardware problems. Nintendo? They're just making money no matter what they do, so it doesn't matter

You are right. Nintendo only cares about 1st party software sales. 3rd parties are still struggling on the Wii. I will admit they don't try as hard as they do on the HD consoles but it is pretty obvious that just about any half decent shooter (new or old ip) on 360 will sell millions very quickly and the same thing may or may not do well on Wii. Yes, the Wii Sports, Wii Fits, Carnival games, Guitar Hero, Mario Kart, Wii Plays of the world do well on the Wii but releasing a title aimed at gamers on the Wii isn't sure to sell.  And even if a core title does reach 1 mil the dev. could have spent their time on a Fitness or Mini game compilation and possibly done just as good or better with less effort.

I'm just saying that if the casual crowd doesn't come out and buy Nintendo's next console they may be hurting financially in a few years...  Also, it isn't graphics or even Waggle that keeps alot of core gamers from buying or enjoying Wii's.  I think it is the absolutely TERRIBLE online support.  There is a reason why tons of people support the 360 over PS3 and Xbox Live is a big part of it.  Also, don't kid yourself, casual gamers are far more internet savy than Nintendo would give them credit for.  Those same "casual" gamers have Facebook accounts and iPhone's/iPod Touches which could start to hurt Nintendo's portable share in the long run as well...

I don't think Nintendo will be hurting financially, but I am curious about how they are going to attract the next generation of consumers.  It will be an interesting feat to see how Nintendo's Super Wii beats its original Wii.  I mean, for the people who just bought Wii Sports and a couple other games... why buy the Super Wii?

You are right.  They probably won't be hurting money wise since they have made sooo much money on the Wii but I can see them being in last place again easily.  Don't get me wrong, I too have a Wii and love many of the games but as creative and original as Nintendo is they are FAR behind in other areas that they should be competent in considering how much money they have made.  It is almost like if they didn't think of an idea first or go there first then it isn't a good idea.  MS certainly didn't innovate as much as Nintendo this gen but Xbox Live is really nice for a console infrastructure...

I'm not sure what Nintendo is going to do next.  Unlike MS/Sony, I doubt they will invest in AI/Facial/Voice Recognition etc. (besides dabbling) since that kind of software development probably costs alot just like HD visuals do but I can see them revisiting the Virtual Boy concept with a sunglass like headset for a virtual reality portable.  The virtual boy was just ahead of its time since the tech just wasn't there yet...

In the meantime, every time they release a big game that is missing features that should be standard this gen (16x9, Dolby PL, IR Camera Controls where possible, online features) I will point out how disappointing it is.  There are two kinds of fanboys.  Those that blindly eat up anything their favorite company makes and defend it to the death and those that question areas that could use improvement.  I fall into the latter category and Nintendo is sorely lacking in online this gen, despite me liking Mario Kart and The Conduit.
