Forums - Nintendo - IGN Review: Wii Sports Resort. Right in the middle

So IGN Australia gave it a 6.5

IGN UK gave it a 8.9

And now ladies and gentleman IGN US gave it a 7.7 Basically a hit and miss, they love some of the games included (like swordplay) but hate others (mostly cycling)

7.0 Presentation
Good enough doesn't feel good enough in this sequel. You've got a nice features list in all 12 challenges, but once again Nintendo doesn't go above and beyond.
8.5 Graphics
Believe it or not, the game is one of the better looking Wii titles. Simple art style? Sure. But the visuals are pulling next-gen effects like water physics and depth of focus, all at 60 FPS.
8.0 Sound
Clean, happy, up-beat soundtrack, complete with the same announcer from the first game.
8.0 Gameplay
Some games work better than others, but the real champs here are Swordplay, Table Tennis, Archery, and Frisbee.
7.5 Lasting Appeal
It's an evergreen title that will keep you coming back, but Nintendo could have done so much more (online?) to keep players' interests.
7.7
Good

OVERALL
(out of 10 / not an average)

I think it's a fair review. They should have included an online mode, that could have put the lasting appeal at >9.

7.5 in lasting appeal? Wii Sports is still played by a lot of people and this gets 7.5? It's clear there's a problem with reviewers nowadays.

Lack of online? So what.... you can say IGN is reviewing for their "hardcore audience", but some days ago there was a poll on IGN that asked about online gaming on the Wii, and "didn't care at all" had more votes. It seems IGN doesn't know their own reader's tastes.

What did Ign's give Wii Fit?

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

Seems like everybody loves archery and swordplay

Yea well bozon did say he only liked 1/2 of the games. These ones he thought WM+ was actually using so thats why.

Anyway it will review very well irrespective of Ign.

Oh well, I will get this just for the swordplay so I can train kendo for 1h every morning.

i hate when Wii is compared with HD consoles
lets face it the wii is not much of a big upgrade from the gamecube (even nintendo themselves said it) , and yet they keep saying "but it doesn't look as good as the HD Consoles!!!". what do you expect actually?
