Porto, Porto, Porto, Portooooooooooooooooo!

We won the Europa League!!!

It's a shame that the game itself was a bit weak and boring, but european finals are seldomly exciting given the nerves and tension that both teams carry, unless a big lead is achieved at early stages of the match.

Also, Braga played a very physical game, given that they had literally nothing to lose, as being in the finals was already a major achievement for a team of their scale. And most of the times, those are the hardest teams to beat.

Anyway, it's over, we won, our 7th international cup, pretty amazing for a team which is not part of the "strong" leagues in Europe. I don't even dream that we will be able to relive the 2002-2003/2003-2004 run which gave us the UEFA Cup and CL Cup, but I do believe we will put a very strong show in the CL next year!

And there's still the European Super Cup with either MU or Barça, which will be a good showcase of our real talent (if anyone had any doubts after the strong run we had on this Europa League).

Thanks Falcao. Thanks Hulk. Thanks Moutinho. Thanks Andre Villas-Boas. Thanks the entire team, staff and our great president, for giving us so many joys in the last decades!.

Here's to the "quadruplete"!!! (Portuguese Super Cup, Portuguese Champion which we won without a single defeat, Europa League, with just the Portuguese Cup lef this Sunday).

If Andre Villas-Boas really does go to Chelsea, while I primarly criticize him for the move, I also want to say: Screw you Abramovich and screw your petro-dollars. Also screw football, a sport where only the ones that have money can triumph.

This thread is called "The Football Thread" and no new posts since six days, even though the World Cup just started earlier today?

You mean the Women's World Cup right? Meh, Germany's going to win it anyway.

Say what you want, but I find the question who wins the Women's World Cup more exciting and interesting than who wins the Gold Cup (which actually got its own thread).

Don't get me wrong, I don't care for the Gold Cup as well

I do not mean that the Women's World Cup isn't interesting, as I watched the last one. I only meant that because Germany has the best team by far. Their only real competition is Brazil.

Actually Germany's main competition is USA and Brazil (and it used to be Norway and Sweden as well - but if the friendly match GER vs NOR a few days ago really revealed Norway's current strength, at least one Scandinavian team can't compete with the big 3 at the moment).

BTW: 14 million viewers in Germany watched GER vs CAN yesterday, more than 3 million watched the WC opening match FRA vs NIG.

Hasn't the USA team's strength decreased a lot in the past years?
