It just depends how much you play, and there are enough games on each platform to support your average gamer

Well I enjoy fighters, FPS games, and WRPGs like Mass Effect, Fallout 3, Fable 2, Oblvion, etc. With that said the Wii is useless to me.

Well not every console is suited to every person. Personally I do think that the PS3 and 360 have more diverse line-ups than Wii, but that is because I don't care about the Nintendo characters (Mario etc.)

I can, but i manage to see beyond what is hyped

I honestly don't know because I must be the only person on the site who has never owned a Nintendo console. I've owned all their handhelds though.

I have never owned a Nintendo console either, though I have owned a GB and GBA, but that is it

I am happier with the Wii than I was with N64, GameCube or MegaDrive.

I'm not flaming you or anything, I'm legitimately curious as to why that is.  I know that, as a fan of Nintendo's first party, N64 reigns supreme out of the consoles you mentioned, they had (IMO) the best titles in all the best franchises, MK, Zelda, Mario, Mario RPG, Donkey Kong, Starfox, etc. etc.  Gamecube wasn't as solid as N64 in that regard, but it seemed to have better third party support than Wii does.  So what makes Wii your favorite?  Games?  Motion control?  The combination of both?

The N64 had the cream of the crop for games, but not much else, I mean Endless Ocean on the Wii for instance I would not consider a top tier game (and I don't think many would) but it is one of my favourite titles.

MK64 was good, but not great
I didn't play SM64 until I got it on the Virtual Console so in truth it is part of my Wii experience
Zelda is indeed awesome... I would say due to having both OoT and MM the N64 beats the GC and Wii Zelda experiences... but then I didn't own OoT until I got it on the GameCube (I did play the hell out of it on my friends N64 though) and didn't play Majora's Mask until it came out on the Virtual Console.
OoT has also aged quite a lo now in my opinion, so while it was great back then, my current ranking of Zelda is: Windwaker >>> Majora's Mask > Twilight Princess >>> OoT
By Mario RPG I assume you mean Paper Mario... I haven't played it, in fact I am not sure I have played an RPG (I think, as I am a bit hazy on the definition for the genre... you had best check my game collection)
ALL Donkey Kong games I have played have been terrible, except for a 2D one on the SNES which looked great, bu otherwise I didn't find it compelling
Lylat Wars I also bought on the Virtual Console because people seemed to like it... I hate it, I am clearly in the miority but the tiny flying sections in Star Fox Adventures were more enjoyable than the entire Lylat Wars game.

I will give the N64 one thing... In F-Zero X it still has my favourite racing game of all the ones I have played so far... Mario Kart Wii is a close second though.

So for Mario Kart:
MKWii >>> MK:DD >>>>>>>>> MK64

Mario Platformer:
SMGalaxy >> SM64

Zelda (see above)

Mario RPG, not interested.

Donkey Kong, really not interested.

Starfox:
SFAdventures >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Lylat Wars

------------

The reason the Wii is my favourite console is for the only reason people should rate a console, games.... the good controls are part of the games. If you look at my games collection:
I bought 22 games for my N64... 8 of them I would not have bought had I experienced them first. If you include the GC version of OoT, and my N64 Virtual COnsole games, that figure increases to 27 N64 games, and 10 I would not have bought with hindsight.
For GameCube I bought 14 games....(one of them - Eternal Darkness -  never touched my GC though as I bought it for te Wii) 2 I would not have bought in hindsight
For the Wii I have bought 19 disc based games, and 7 Wiiware, and would not have bought 2 disc and 1 Wiiware title had I played them first.

None of the above goes into price issues though... as most of my GC games were bought at or near full price, this was not so for N64 nor Wii... if I had to buy them all at full price, then the Wii and N64 "hindsight" figures would increase, probably to adding 3 games for N64, and 3 to Wii disc games.

yes you can.. you can survive with having any 1 console this generation since unlike last gen(actually every system last gen had good games) this generation every system has GOTY ip (SMG, LBP, OBLIVION, MGS4, GTA)

Sorry that is a bit silly, take your favourite PS3 game for instance (I am guessing MGS4) then take away all other games.... are you saying you would be happy to have paid $450 - $650 for a single game. I am sure some people (with more money than sense) are fine with buying a system for a single game... but those people will not all be buying the same game. There are millions of people who are living with only the Wii as a system without having played Mario Galaxy, same for people owning a PS3 without MGS4.

A system lives on it's library, not on a single game. Yes people may buy a system and be happy with just 1 game, but they will not determine that by looking at game of the year awards.

I've survived without any problems on Wii-DS this generation. There are some games on the HD twins I'd like to play, but they wouldn't justify buying a second console to me.

I think now it is, but back in the 1st to early second year all I had was Super Mario Strikers, Twilight Princess, Madden 07 and several VC games.

Well is just a matter of personal taste... i have my wii, couldn't be happier. I actually need more time.. time is what I'm lacking. School is a bitch. Especially in this course that I'm right now.

There's a X360 in the house, but i barely touch that. I probably played it about 3 times in the last 4 months.
