Forums - PC - Google's head honcho's have fired some SHITS at Windows

Also look at Apple and their OS. They have kinda failed even though they are probably the most loved electronics company around atm with a huge brand name. They also did alot of marketing...

Google's OS will be as terrible as their browser is, which is sad, because Windows needs serious competition and has none!

If their OS is as terrible as their browser, then I'll pre-order. Chrome rocks face.

It's a steaming pile of RAM-hungry garbage.

Opera >>> Firefox > IE8 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Chrome

It won't make any significant impact until it can offer a true alternative in the enterprise environment. OS X has been around for almost a decade now and is even now massively lacking in the enterprise market.

I'm sorry, but I like Chrome much more than IE and Firefox. My opinion from using all three. My experience with Opera was terrible, so I won't ever be using it.

People are excited about it? really? Maybe nerds and geeks... ask the average man and he wont even know... or care.

for example, if Linux is so wonderful and loved by all that use it, why has its market share gone DOWN?

I suggest Google look after their core search business... that has lost market share recently.... to Bing! lol. Oh the irony.

You seem to forget that unlike Linux, Google is an established brand and for the average pleb, is synonymus with the internet. Just mention the word internet and most will think of google. My partners brother doesn't even use his address bar, he just types what he wants (including web sites) into google to get where he's going (he's a little computer iliterate). Couple this with the fact that they are promoting it as an OS for the net. Also I think a good number of Linux users are at least somewhat elitist, and it does have an extra knowledge gap that makes it harder for people to migrate to. Google on the other hand have provided us in the past with efficient and intuitive interfaces.

And yes, tech geeks are going to be excited about it, for the reason that it'll mean more competition for Windows which will hopefully mean better OS' all round. Btw, aren't most people commenting on this thread at least a little geeky?

meh it'll probably get a little more support than linux, but less support than apple and windows. Google is a search engine company primarily- i don't think i'm ready for a google OS.

I agree with outlawauron. Google Chrome is fantastic and easily the best web browser I've used. It's much faster, cleaner and smarter and is a much nicer feeling browser than it's competitors.

Also telling a company to stick with a particular thing is stupid.. If a company doesn't diversify into other areas, they usually end up failing..

And the worst think is that it will even fail if MS stand still, which they wont.

I dislike Chrome because it's almost wholly inferior to Firefox.

  • Lack of options.  I can tweak so many more general settings in both Firefox and Internet Explorer than I can in Chrome.
  • Sortable History (ala Firefox).  I love sorting my history by website and date.  It's just amazingly useful and Chrome doesn't do it.
  • Ad-Blocking Plugins (ala Firefox and IE).  I don't like seeing ads and running all my traffic through a special proxy is barbaric.
  • Customization (ala Firefox).  In Firefox, I can tweak webpages to look however I like, I can write javascript to ignore you, and I can modify just about anything else about my web surfing experience.  Chrome has nothing on that.
  • Crashes more often.  I've noticed that the vgC IM will crash in Chrome every so often but works fine in Firefox.
  • Downloads work better (in Firefox).  Open in containing folder is a beautiful option in Firefox thanks to Download Statusbar.
  • Email checking (in Firefox).  I can see my emails as they come in from just about any account right in my browser.
  • Session saving/tab saving.  In Chrome, I can bookmark a tab.  In Firefox, I can bookmark a tab, a group, save my entire session, and look at entire sessions from the past, and more.

Still, all I want to see is the OS market get better.  I, as a consumer, want a better OS.  If more competition will give that to me then I welcome it.
