You seem to forget that unlike Linux, Google is an established brand and for the average pleb, is synonymus with the internet. Just mention the word internet and most will think of google. My partners brother doesn't even use his address bar, he just types what he wants (including web sites) into google to get where he's going (he's a little computer iliterate). Couple this with the fact that they are promoting it as an OS for the net. Also I think a good number of Linux users are at least somewhat elitist, and it does have an extra knowledge gap that makes it harder for people to migrate to. Google on the other hand have provided us in the past with efficient and intuitive interfaces.
And yes, tech geeks are going to be excited about it, for the reason that it'll mean more competition for Windows which will hopefully mean better OS' all round. Btw, aren't most people commenting on this thread at least a little geeky?
