Forums - Sales Discussion - All new manufactured Wii shipped to Europe ?

what game is Dai Rantou?

the Wii is an epidemic.

Around the Network

I don't think the Wii is as reliant on game releases to drive sales, at least compared to the 360 or PS3. The Wii has the ability to expand into non-traditional gaming demographics. These are people who might not even know about the Wii until they get hands on experience with it. That is the advantage the Wii has over the 360 and PS3. The Wii has mass market appeal. I know a lot of people who would never in a million years want to play GoW or Resistance or any of the hardcore gaming hits. But show them Wii Sports and they will be hooked. And few parents will have issues with their kids playing Wii Sports, unlike the more violent best sellers. It's one of the few best selling games where I can see entire families having fun at the same time.

I don't get why selling more product equals spreading FUD or being the sneaky wolf? Launching earlier is rigged, launching at the same time is rigged, diverting shipments is rigged, increasing shipments is rigged? Nintendo could plot between the continents all they want - if people weren't interested in the Wii it wouldn't give them any good sales numbers. What Nintendo is staging is an honest competition for entertainment money with a system that honestly is not comparable to the PS3 + Xbox but pretty good anyway.

Hardcore gaming is a bubble economy blown up by Microsoft's $7 $6 billion losses.

Its the timing. Nintendo knew they'd sell more based on supply alone. Specifically talking about the NA launch, Nintendo assured that they'd not only sell more, but that the whole world would know it, AND that they'd get favorable comparisons of Wii to PS3 in the mainstream press. As I said, in Japan Nintendo knew they were in charge, and merely launched with enough units to quickly pass Sony. The possible diversion of units to Europe for the PS3 launch would be consistent with the NA launch, though, in being an attempt to quench the hype right away.

"[Our former customers] are unable to find software which they WANT to play."
"The way to solve this problem lies in how to communicate what kind of games [they CAN play]."

Satoru Iwata, Nintendo President. Only slightly paraphrased.

So they offered their box at half the price and twice the quantity, which customers embraced. Why is offering real sales numbers spreading FUD, which Wikipedia describes as "negative (and vague) information on a competitor's product"? How else could they have done it to receive your moral approval?
