Its sad people can't see the value of the ps3.

It's more that people don't find value in the PS3, because they refuse to define value by what the devs put into it: more important is what they, the consumers, get out of it, and the PS3 simply doesn't give them enough to be worth that much money.

Complexity is not depth. Machismo is not maturity. Obsession is not dedication. Tedium is not challenge. Support gaming: support the Wii.

What do I hate about modern gaming? I hate tedium replacing challenge, complexity replacing depth, and domination replacing entertainment. I hate the outsourcing of mechanics to physics textbooks, art direction to photocopiers, and story to cheap Hollywood screenwriters. I hate the confusion of obsession with dedication, style with substance, new with gimmicky, old with obsolete, new with evolutionary, and old with time-tested.
There is much to hate about modern gaming. That is why I support the Wii.

Sweet sweet vindication:

I contacted the author and editor of the article to verify how and why the word ´would´ was added. This is the reply I received.

I think you can use the story without the word "would". It was probably added in the editing process in an attempt to clarify the quote, which was "I lose money on every PlayStation I make -- how's that for logic."

Wow. So, an editor, who I assume wasn't present for the conversation, added (would) into the quote. I wonder what kind of editing process allows that, since it competely screws up the meaning of what is being said.

sinha, this may be the last time I'm so eager to defend a "reporter's perspective" to clarify the intent of a quote; I've been burned by the work of a dastardly editor.  :)

1) The editor was just trying to be helpful, but you have to remember that almost all of these mainstream editors and reporters know next to nothing about the gaming industry because they don't follow it at all.  Hell, Michael Pachter and half the people on this site do follow it and they still make asses of themselves.

2) Never doubt me again.

We don't provide the 'easy to program for' console that they [developers] want, because 'easy to program for' means that anybody will be able to take advantage of pretty much what the hardware can do, so the question is what do you do for the rest of the nine and half years? It's a learning process. - SCEI president Kaz Hirai

It's a virus where you buy it and you play it with your friends and they're like, "Oh my God that's so cool, I'm gonna go buy it." So you stop playing it after two months, but they buy it and they stop playing it after two months but they've showed it to someone else who then go out and buy it and so on. Everyone I know bought one and nobody turns it on. - Epic Games president Mike Capps

We have a real culture of thrift. The goal that I had in bringing a lot of the packaged goods folks into Activision about 10 years ago was to take all the fun out of making video games. - Activision CEO Bobby Kotick

Sony is definitely losing money on it's PS3 and so are retailers. I work at Best Buy and the price at which we get the PS3 in our store is $410 Canadian, which is 10 bucks more than the retail price. That's why we try selling everyone the extra cables and warranties :P
