Forums - Nintendo - The Conduit: O-D-C's early impressions

ok, I'm just going to ask: why? why rate the game before you've actually reviewed it? all it's going to do is lead to some kind of retarded flame war. it's like your daring fan boys to hate you. I'm not trying to attack you. I have nothing against you in any way. but come on! what's the point? it doesn't make you look good, it will just make them act annoyingly. and you write a nice blog, but unless your blog is noticed by metacritic (and if you are you have my apologies, for not researching that) it's not going to back up what you are saying, because anyone can have a blog. I do look forward to reading your REAL review. like I said this is not meant as an attack.

On a visit to GameStop to 'browse' the latest games I noticed one last copy of the Conduit on the shelf... after debating wether to buy it for about an hour I took the 54.99$ plunge, and here are my VERY early impressions.

Graphics: Where to start... best on Wii? No, not even close, sure the effects are pretty, but I own Gamecube games that look better then this, some things like the gun details, character models are fine but the enviroments... where are the details? everything is gray or a shade of orange. But that might fall into art direction.

so grpahics Ill give it 2.5 / 5

Gameplay: Go to point A shoot 5-7 enemis go to point B shoot 5-7 enemies, lather rinse repeat.

2 / 5

Controls: Fantastic, almost as good as Metroid Prime 3, and the customisable controls are so detailed that it makes the Conduit play like one of Wii's finest.

4 / 5

Online: Stay tuned

So thats it, so far its pretty underwhelming, sure the controls are great, but the real punch to the gut is thr gameplay is so darn boring. Sure Im not very far into the game, but from what I can tell... (sigh)

Sounds about right for the single-player, save for the controls (those are 5/5; you can even make them like Metroid's if you're so inclined). But the game's an FPS, so skip the rest of single-player (you're missing nothing) and get your rear online now!

I'm just curious about your gameplay part.

What do YOU normally do in an FPS?

Your graphics part is interesting as well. I've never heard anyone say TC has a color problem.

Please play it on an HDTV. The graphics look like shit on an SDTV but look amazing on an HDTV.

With component cables, of course.

I'm playing my first round through on high. only about 35% through it. But I'm almost gold online. If you ever play 'multi' thats me :P

A lesson for what exactly?

better looking gamecube games:

Resident Evil 4
The Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Metroid Prime
Metroid Prime 2: Echoes
Star Wars: Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader
Star Wars: Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike
Star Fox: Adventures
Super Mario Sunshine

and btw I am a game reviewer http://www.360blog.org/2009/05/a-blast-from-the-past-a-review-of-fire-emblem-shadow-dragon/

I never understood how from a techinical pespective people claim an alternate style to be superior than technical or design. Don't get me wrong I find that the art style of Wind Waker to be far leagues better than TP or The Conduit, but in all honestly there is no way that technicly WW, TP, SS, MP123, RE4, SF:A beat out TC in technical avhievement. While I admit the polys are low can TC be blamed for a game that's meant to look old? Do we blame Mad World for being B&W? no of course not it's part of the art style.

From a techinical point of view I have seen small things in TC that I enjoyed, but just blow past in game play. Some of the scrolling neo signs are great to behold for their glow effect and individual looking lines. The graphical mapping was really well done.

I also disagree with your control evaluation. After playing numerous hours of both TC default is better. Though I'm willing to concede that famililiarity can play a important role.

ANyways that's my opinion.

Here is another opinion. Primary console players should not be reviewing PWii games. Simply put the pointer is THE BEST shooter mechanism ever. Either by Mouse, TS or IR.

Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.

To me the graphics does gets better more and more as i played it. If this game ran at 60 fps, that would be sexy! I really wish you could make rooms like MoH so i could just have it at 4 or 6 players. It doesn't lag that much with those numbers of ppl and i get to choose what weapons and stage i want instead of doing the lottery than.
