Forums - Sony - Can the PSP maintain the momentum?

There are a lot of good games coming out this year. A lot.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. It will drop. The spike in hardware is ridiculously high and ridiculously fast because of the new hardware plus FFVII:CC released.

But, it will have a higher leveling off than it was previously selling.

As in...90k or so?

That may be too high. It was plateauing between 30-40k in Japan before the hardware refresh. When second week numbers come in for the slim, it will have dropped over 50%, and will see another drop until the holiday season or another japanese centric game is released.

I say no, because I don't think the PSP Slim is the primary reason its sales jumped so much in Japan. I think it has a lot more to do with FF and MGS games that just released.

Well seeing that it only sold a bit over 100k in that week , and that most MPO+ games are upgrades for the original ... your idea doesnt stands for much ... Japanese people like new shiny consoles thats all :P

Well seeing at the moment, the PSP Slim & Lite has sold over 580k units in 2 weeks is pretty much amazing.  Yes, it will slow down, naturally, but it sold 132k units last week and may very well come down to under 100k (I reckon maybe around the 90k mark), but it will start to tail off and could very possibly end up around 40-50k for a while.

Prediction (June 12th 2017)

Permanent pricedrop for both PS4 Slim and PS4 Pro in October.

PS4 Slim $249 (October 2017)

PS4 Pro $349 (October 2017)

Lets hope that it will be able to maintain a 50K overall untill the holiday period ...

Maintain that kind of momentum? I highly doubt it, I love the system to death but those sales seem astounding XD. One thing that I do find rather odd however is that the most common complaint against the PSP is its lineup of software, yet when recently checking Metacritic the PSP has more games rated 90+ than the DS does o.O? And I know from personal preference that theres only 1 DS title that I'm even interested in anyway, Brain Age... I dunno to each is own I suppose :D

From 0 to KICKASS in .stupid seconds.

Considering it decreased over 50% since last week, I'm going to say absolutely not, and it's a ridiculous question.

But, I do believe the PSP will sell better than it has been for the majority of its life. It WILL do a bit better than it's been, but it seriously won't do that well.

Looking at PSP sales before Crisis Core released, I expect the PSP will even out at about 20-23k per week.

50k is not much seeing that it could keep up with that afther the release of MHP2 ... and one more thing : the PSP has no 90% + rated games on metacritics , but it has ~ 2 times as many 80% + games as the DS :)
