When I first clicked on this thread, I told myself that this was probably that silly, year-old Sony PR repeated, and reading this was probably a waste of time.
I was half right.

LOL! I love how repair costs are added in this comparison, yet the writer puts nothing for the PS3 because the chance of breaking is none. My PS3 broke down last May and last Month. WTF Sony? It costs me $150 to fix it - the other is free. When my PS3 was sent away to get fixed, my electricity bill went down 150%. We should add that to the comparison!!
| jake_the_fake1 said: One can not say that these numbers are incorrect, these numbers are correct but under certain conditions, so lets break it down to more specific conditions shall we, I will remove the repair cost as both systems can break, so here are the numbers:-
^ In this situation the Arcade is cheaper than the 80GB PS3, but the both premium versions are the same.
^ In this situation the cheaper SKU's are cost the same, but the Elite is 49.99 more expensive than the 80GB PS3.
^ In this situation, the Elite is more expensive than the 80GB PS3. However, the Arcade still offers the cheapest HD gaming. Add a used 20gb hard drive for $40 (eBay) and you are playing online for much less than a PS3. The Arcade wins in all of the possible scenarios. Folks have to include the Arcade, no matter any way you slice it.
Well these number speak for them selves based on the situations, one can clearly see that if you want everything then both the Pro and Elite cost more than their PS3 counter parts, however, the 360 Pro can also be the cheapest but as the sacrifice of wireless and Live gold membership, while the PS3 seems to remain in the middle despite offering wireless and online. Obviously numbers can be manipulated every which way, but I think I've got a more informative break down that takes certain conditions into account, rather than generalise, and if I'm wrong, then by all means correct me.

Fix'd. I have an Arcade - and wifi and LIVE. Here are my actual costs.
Anyone has access to eBay. If you are retarded enough to pay $50 a year for LIVE, you deserve to be own3d.
Then the PS3 doesn't need a price cut!...since they are already losing ALOT of money, and are still being outsold by the "less powerful" console.
Biased Comparison. PS3 Is Selling Bad For Being Cheaper Than 360.

Some people feel insecure purchasing stuffs online, like me. Don't count them out.
One thing people need to clear out is the fact that ps3's failure rate is below 1%. So the 200$ repairs are less likely to happen, unless people treats their console like an utter crap.
IF needed to repair, then the ps3 is more expensive than the 360.
But that's not the case for every ps3's out there, only a bunch have had problems.
So yes, the ps3 is cheaper. If you would like everything the ps3 has to offer on a 360,then the 360 would be more expensive.

Worth noting that even the PS3 breaks down and it is debatable whether your machine would break down past 3 yrs as it is probably statisically more likely to break down earlier on with the RROD issue. Of course if you purchase a machine today then it is even more unlikely.
I never understand the clamour for wireless in a gamer as my experience has been it is totally unreliable and subject to much fluctuation. It is for that reason I moved to the Homeplug method giving me flexibility and a reliable connection. In my scenario I would rather of had the money spent on a Homeplug than a Wifi adapter which is my main reason for opting for the 360, choice.
That said I cannot go against your concerns with the RROD issue in the early days at least I would take humbrage to that now though. That said Microsoft did the right thing for most people and it became a non issue but that does not mean it was not an issue as reliability is very important and it certainly cost Microsoft sales yours possibly being one of them.

Kinect as seen by PS3 owners ...if you can pick at it ...post it ... Did I mention the 360 was black and Shinny? THEY SHOULD JUST GIVE UP, because no price cut is going to save their ebony machine from its certain fate! Its time to FACE FACTS people! The Xbox 360 is selling because people want it, and thats something Sony has simply failed to do. Every time I see someone whining about sales, I think about comparisons like this which PROVE BEYOND DOUBT that the XBOX 360 is simply the better console. BETTER CONSOLE! ![]() |
I'm glad we all believe consumers are perfectly rational now. This is why the consoles are priced at 199.99 and 399.99, because there are just too many people who when they are optimizing their finances come to the realization that that extra .01 breaks the bank.
I've noticed a generally negative relationship between how well international studies rate the "mathematics" education of a country's student population and 360 market share. Correlation or causation? :P
If I wanted to play Madden 2010 (and I don't) and my options were PS3 or 360, the 360 is cheaper. Why do these comparisons always toss in all of these luxury items and claim they're necessity?
I own a PS3 and a 360. It is what it is. Why not add PC for internet viewing and the price of a stand alone Blu-Ray player to the cost of a 360? In my particular situation, with the PS3, I'm being charged for features I DON'T USE. My last Blu-Ray was The Dark Knight, last year. I my consoles are 3 feet from my router so only my Wii uses Wi-Fi (only because I don't have any other option). I'd rather pay money for the features I want, rather than be forced to pay outright for features I don't use.
PS3 rocks. The 360 rocks. At the end of the day, the purpose of these comparisons is to make one group feel superior to another. There is no loser or winner here.
