September 2009 introduction of a $299 PS3 Slim = 13 million PS3 sold in 2009

For that to happen it has to sell like 8 million between September and December... last year it sold 4 million in that period. Are you really saying a $100 price cut and a slim model can double sales during a recession?

lol I knew u or Squill would come with the seasonal comparisons. Damn it.

But yes, almost double last year I think is possible. U know, the PS3 had a very bad Holiday sales in both NA and Europe didnt it? (like flat sales compared to 07 or something)

If Sep-Dec truly was 4 mill in 2008 and 8 mill is needed for 13 mill in 2009 then no, that wont happen. Maybe 7 mill though?

@alephnull

You misunderstand. Intel wmade 45nm chips but is no longer planning to support them by mass producing them. In fact they are slated to be discontinued after producing a certain number of them. The reason is because development of 32nm chips is going SMOOTHLY for Intel. Here, read this:

and this what matters most for the consoles/360 slim:

7 million maybe... if GT5 comes this year. It's still a 75% improvement, which is a lot to ask for with just a price cut and a new model.

I mean, what's the last time we saw a console improve by 75% with just a price cut?

Don't forget about FF XIII in Japan. That alone may boost it an extra million just in that region.

Sep-Dec 2008 PS3 sold 4.3 million. The X360 sold 6.5 mill.

A $299 Slim combo for PS3 should easily outsell the X360's Sep-Dec period from 2008. 7.5 mill is possible.

Jan-Aug will sell almost 5 million PS3s. 5+7.5=12.5 mill. But I admit that's if everything goes perfect, and it will be hard to reach.

EDIT: this is not with a GT5. IMO there's 0 chance GT5 will come out in 2009 in the Western markets.

EDIT: I wanted to add that theres never been a major problem with the Ps3 system, the only problem (sales wise) has been the huge price tag.

Once that price tag drops, Ps3 will reign supreme.

Nintendo already has make the biggest comeback in the history of video games !!! Don't you know ???

Lol. Ditto

This is true....gamecube to Wii. Nintendo made a complete...360.

Maybe the xbox360 has a 720 in it yet.

You guys are setting yourselves up for a disaster...

if you say so

MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.

Expectations like these can't be good.

Current-gen game collection uploaded on the profile, full of win and good games; also most of my PC games. Lucasfilm Games/LucasArts 1982-2008 (Requiescat In Pace).

All I know is that if wii gets a pricecut when new super mario bros. wii is released and it's bundled with it and lots of ads on tv together with wii fit+.... It would sell more in 3 months then the ps3 could do in 2 years.
