Forums - Sales - Why Do Wii Games That Flop Mean More?

Aside from the people with an agenda, there are likely a lot of people who WANT to see a great many Wii 'core' title do really well, thats why so much attention is given to the topic. People like me for instance who want to see a few WRPGs etc make tracks on the Wii and sell well so that more of the same would come to the system.

Most of the time a Wii game that "flops" serves as reassurement for people who fear that big third party games may migrate to a Nintendo console due to the Wii's high installed base. I can't think of another good reason why some guys jump at every oppurtunity to point out low sales (even if it's going to come back and bite them in the ass a few months later when the game racked up respectable sales). This isn't only restricted to regular fanboys, but also includes game journalists.

If the Wii got all those games it already got, but didn't have these hardware sales and instead had an installed base of around 20m, there wouldn't be so much noise about third party "failures". There would be nothing to fear because a third place console wouldn't get better third party support anyway. And without that fear there wouldn't be a need to constantly jump at every oppurtunity to declare that the Wii won't get better third party games because the games already out didn't sell.

True.  This is why certain reviewers are giving the Conduit such low scores without the reviewer even connecting the game online.  This is because of their fears that if the Wii gets the shooters than their console of choice wouldn't have anything left.

They think that if the give games bad reviews that no one will buy them and they're right.  This is why Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games sold only 357 copies.

Its because PS360 owners feel that the fact that alot of games that flop on the wii are just demonstrating that it has yet to prove that it can sustain a plethora of genres. While 3rd party sales of all genres have sold well and continue to sell well on the PS360/PC the same "cannot" necessarialy be said about the wii.

BTW this is NOT my opinion :)

Certain 3rd party games on the Wii outsell the other systems from almost all genres.

Look at the latest Tiger Woods for example.  It's outselling the other two and supposedly the Wii cannot sell sports games, right?

One of the only genres that the Wii has yet to dominate  is the shooter.  This is why people are fearful of games like the Conduit.

BTW.  This is not my opinion either.  :p

Okay, next question. For how long do you plan to keep your current gamerscore of 9,999 points? That's a really nice number.

Yeah.  I bet it's much harder than getting 9999 VR points in Mario Kart.

Did he leave?

It's because many trolls like to make things bigger than they are while most people really don't give a shit.

@Munkeh

But CoD4 wasn't on the Wii, and the Wii version is inferior to the HD versions.

CoD3 sold better on Wii than PS3.

On PS3 CoD 3 had the major disadvantage of having Resistance competing with it, whereas to my knowledge, there were nearly no other FPSs on Wii {and the EU sales of it are questionable, they aren't properly tracked}. And why is the Wii version inferior to the PS3 version?

@ arius dion, firstly, the PS3 does have half the user base of the Wii, secondly I think that many of them will have got the game on PS2 (I am just talking about GH III) as most of the GH fans would have already got the instruments on PS2, which is why the PS2 version sold so much

The Wii version didn't have neither zombie mode nor splitscreen.

Face facts. No trolling or the like, but look at what's selling on the Wii. I can't tell you the number of folks who had absolutely no interest in a Playstation or Xbox talk about the Wii. They have bought Wiiplay for the extra controller - bought WiiFit and a few other titles. That's it. So when a new Wii game hyped by diehard fans fail or doesn't meet expectations, they are quick to defend it. Please.

Third-parties risk losing a grip of money during an economic downturn trying to find a winning formula. This site has tons of Wii fans who are more than vocal - but in the real world, not so much. You may think '________ (insert title here) is going to hit 1-2M' and opening week, it has 150K sold and downward from there. Then, folks are looking at each other, wondering what happened. It's not a shock to me (or others) at all.

And ask the average Wii owner what 'Conduit' is, what 'No more heroes' is and see what they say.

When a 360 or PS3 game flops, it's not hidden. It's talked about and ridiculed. It's not just Wii titles, folks. It's universal. If a game is a turd, it's a turd.

And that's coming from a Wii owner.

Almost 3 years though and this still aint happening. I wonder why... Of course, you could raise MH3 as an exception, but if you think Capcom won't port that you are kidding yourself. There isn't any justification for third parties to make core Wii exclusives. You can keep Deadly Creatures...

If this is true, then you are going to have to explain to me why Wii owners are buying software at a faster rate than 360 or PS3 owners.
