Forums - Sony - Analysis: Was Using Original IP The Best Idea For Sony's PS3 Strategy?

Stopped reading there. AMERICA IS NOT THE FUCKING WORLD!

It makes sense, most people who bought and are buying the PS3 are buying them because they always bought a PS* console, therefore they are sequel mongers. The people who own Xbox 360 and Wiis are more likely to try new things because most probably hadn't bought an Xbox or Gamecube most likely. They probably aren't interested in a huge bevvy of new I.P. they probably want more of the same, if they wanted something different they would have likely bought a Wii or Xbox 360.

Tease.

In the 15+ years Sony has produced game consoles how many IPs have they created and built to the level where they can reliably count on them to attract a lot of attention? Sony has made a lot of IPs over the years, but very few of them are important enough to be much more successful than a well built new IP. Realistically, a Jak game doesn't have the pull of a Mario platformer, a Dark Cloud won't attract the attention of Zelda, and a Socom will not bring in people like Halo will, so there was very little for Sony to gain by focusing on sequels.

@HappySqurriel

No GT in the list XD

i actually supporting them because of that.

they focus to create from ground new games and actually are really good.

sequels to the games have come later. 2009-2010 but new games getting it second wind too.

in the end they will have more first party exclusives that both nintendo and microsoft .

I think that Sony could have mixed it up more, but doesn't really rely on established franchises when they launch a system. Even then they are constantly making new IP's. I applaud them for doing new. I think this intustry has mostly forgotten everything Sony has brought us. Which really disappoints me.

Personally, I actually think that the market has TOO MANY sequels out at the moment. Give me something fresh, new, fun, and I'll spend money on it. I don't want to keep playing the same game 17 times[How many Marios is there? Will Madden ever actually become a decent game?].

I'm not complaining... I like new things. Aslong as SONY is ok with the software sales, I couldn't care less. They brought me some awesome new games this gen.

4 ≈ One

I think the problem is the new IPs aren't really interesting. I am really waiting for God of War III, but other than that and inFamous...there is nothing at all I want to play on the PS3 that isn't available on the 360. I don't know...I never had any interest in Uncharted, Lair, Heavenly Sword, Resistance, etc...It would be killer if the Grandia franchise continued on the PS3 (though I know it's not Sony's IP).

A lot o RPGs have been coming to the 360 plus there is Mass Effect and Fable. Those are pretty much the types of games I am interested in. I'm not even interested in Final Fantasy at all, but I may try it out because I've never played a final fantasy game ever.

I'm not a fanboy, I just try to tip the balance in favor of logic and common sense.

Very nice analysis but if it was worldwide sales, then it would be better.

I like new things, as well as sequels. Sony brought quality IP's this gen.

I understand the tactic they are using. Making new IP's this gen grants sequels to the next gen.

It's one of the best tactics.
