Forums - Gaming - Mole exclusive: PS3, 360 price drops coming this fall

Interesting that there's a mole that's a mole to both organizations and knows both organizations inner workings.

Anyways, for those saying the 360 won't be $150 anytime soon, some of the major retailers in Canada (Wal-Mart, Future Shop, Staples forsure, I think others) have had the Arcade on sale for $149 on and off amongst each other for the past couple of weeks. I'm sure they got the nod to do that from Microsoft since I wouldn't think much of it if it were just one retailer, but since at least 3 that I can think of off the top of my head did it they much be trying to either A) clear old units out, B) use the Canadian market as Beta testers once again for an official $149 Arcade price point, or C) just a one time deal for whatever reason.

As a side note, Wal-Mart was also offering the 60GB upgrade pack for $99, so you could get an equivalent to the Pro model for $50 less, not too shabby. I don't think it will make a huge impact on overall sales though given how small our population is.

^ perhaps that was to test the waters in a controlled environment :p. A big increase of sales = justified reason to cut price = more software sales = more $$

TT,
"Blu-ray was a mistake, there i said it"

No it's not. Bluray is there to eliminate disk space limitation, providing more disk space to store more and bigger content. Think before you speak. Otherwise you look like an xbot who likes to spout trash at the playstation 3.

oh it was a mistake to bundle it in, especially with the required HDs in PS3 land, they could ahve just bumped up the HD size cheaper and put it on multiple dvds until the download service was ready they already require an install on many games, why not just let you have the option to do a full install in the end it was a cross media push, and the push hurt the PS3 so much so that it has been religated to 3rd place due to cost, and mixture of other unforunate events, NO one thought the PS3 would still be in this position even after the 360s.

Blue ray is just a chief example of sony hurting their own platform.

I will give them props though for requiring an HD and making it user replace able You here that MS, and Big N , in your next console I want MY HD to be mandatory, and if possible user replaceable

I would say the Elite SKU will get the Pro price tag, The PSP GO will get a 50$ price drop and the 160 GB will go to 399$ possibly 349$ essentially giving the PS3 a 50$ price cut. Either way, without BC and 4 USB ports the new consoles suck.

Yeah read about this, guy has been correct many times before. The PS3 price cut was a given however another 360 price cut is something I did not expect. Needless to say both will get a boost in sales and we will finally be in a position where people will be able to choose between both consoles with price being much less of a deciding factor.

Yes I know the 360 is also getting a price cut however fact of the matter is that the PS3 will be cheaper and many more will be willing to bite the bullet. GT5 this year is so likely now I would be willing to bet against anybody.

PS3 Slim + FFXIII in Japan = :D
PS3 Slim + GT5 in EU = :D
360 price cut + Halo: ODST + Forza 3 = :D

Edit - I actually think the PS3 price cut will be just $50. The Go will be $250 and cannot see there only being a $50 difference between the two. :/

Truth.  People need to get the $299 PS3 out of their heads and grow up.  The adult world that we actually live in now knows better.

The Go is vastly overpriced, considering what you get for the money. The inability to pirate any games(which is great! screw pirates), the loss of a UMD drive and all your games(speaking of adult world, you really think Sony is going to let you download your physical media for free, lol? Pay for it twice, with some small reduction in price), and finally the design is absolute the same as the regular PSP, for controls, ect. Nothing new, or better.

Now, the Go is vastly overpriced, but the reason the PS3 don't drop 100 dollars(also being vastly overpriced for what you get), is because Sony can't afford it.

So, the 50 dollar price cut won't be the saviour price cut PS3 fans have been hoping for. It will have significant impact, but slow change(2 consecutive 50 dollar pricecuts) reduces the impact.

Sony needs a big pricecut to get rid of the "too expensive" stigma that has plagued the console for so long. Without a 100 dollar pricecut this year, or a 50 plus slim pricecut, they probably will end up third this generation.

I think that they won't get the pricecut they need and will end up last this generation. Next generation, Microsoft will start with an advantage, and the funds to maintain it, and extend the lead. MS will overtake Sony as the obvious core console to own for value and games, next generation. That is how Microsoft operates. That is my prediction. Right now, the momentum, and the money are clearly with Microsoft. How can Sony maintain their brand dominance when they are struggling to stay afloat? They have already lost tons of ground. What advantages will they have next gen, that will allow them to beat Microsoft? Their innovation, lol?

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

Phasing out the Pro and replacing it with the Elite is just silly. The Elite is already $400. So is the PS3. If the Elite is the only good model left, and it gets a price drop, then with it's current price of $399, it won't go under $299. Ironically enough, that's the price point that everyone thinks the PS3 will be at.

I've said it over and over again. A $400 PS3 beat out a $350 360 week in and week out for 8 or 9 months. At price parity, the PS3 will murder the 360

Everyone knows by now a PS3 price cut is coming. Hitting the magic $299.99 price would bring A LOT of boost in PS3's sales.

Please hurry with the price cuts already.

The PS3 needs a price-cut at this point.

Sales are not terrible, but, they aren't good. At all.

Good for us, bad for them!
