^Also, all 360s get RROD, the PS2 is outselling the 360, the 360 has no games, PS3 will DESTROY and the revolution will suck and sell 500k then drive Nintendo bankrupt like Sega!

So basically:

2005: 360 is doomed!
2006: Wii is doomed!
2007: PS3 is doomed!
Early 2008: 360 is doomed!
Late 2008: PS3 is doomed!
Early 2009: Wii is doomed! (in Japan)
Mid 2009: PS3 is doomed!

I always wondered how people could claim the wii/360 are doomed considering they far out strip their predecessors in sales. and as for the ps3 it will out strip the second place console last gen, from its 3rd place currently how is that doomed? they are all doing great way to much hate, and way to many unrealistic expectations

Wii's predecessor: GameCube 22 million sold

360's predecessor: Xbox 25 million sold

PS3's predecessor: PS2 140 million sold

Yeah, its really pathetic PS3 didnt outsold its predecessor by now.

did i say it was pathetic that the PS3 had not out sold the ps2? no i didnt I said the PS3 was doing great that it would beat prior gens 2nd place console, I kept it realistic.  basically what i was saying is the doomed threads are BS but we all no that

"Who cares if the PS3 wins in those regions? The 360 still has a HUGE advantage in WW sales and that continues to grow every week"

I sense an xbot.

Anyways, the xbox 360 has a 30 million unit sales worldwide right? But is it really "worldwide"? The reason why the xbox 360 has more sales than the playstation 3 overall is because of american sales (8 million lead worldwide). In america , the xbox 360 has sold 17 million units whereas playstation 3 has sold 8.5 million units. The difference between those sales in america is 8 million.

8 million lead worldwide. 8 million lead in america. Makes sense to me. Not really worldwide is it?

Correction!

NA sales for X360 are currently at 17.58 million while PS3 is at 8.77 therefore the X360 is leading in NA by 8.81 that is nearly 9 million right there.

Others sales for X360 are currently at 12.20 while PS3 is at 10.82 therefore X360 has a lead of 1.38 million.

Japan sales has X360 currently at 1.09 and PS3 sales are at 3.26 therefore having PS3 leading in Japan by 2.17

8.81 million X360 NA lead in sales + 1.38 million X360 Others lean in sales = 10.19 million  - 2.17 million Ps3 lead sales in Japan = 360 WW lead sales of of 8.02 currently.

What you failed to see is that PS3's lead in Japan is the reason for the 8 million lead and not because of NA sales alone or because of Others sales. X360 is doing great in Europe right now and is blowing away PS3 in Europe and even though PS3 is winning in Japan it still looks pathetic when compared to how the PS2 blew out the Xbox last generation. No matter how you spin it the PS3 is losing an up hill battle. Just look at Europe France sales of PS3 and X360 are nearly equal in Germany sales only have a diffrential of a few thousand between PS3/X360 same goes for Italy. Australia shows X360 winning by a few hundred thousand over PS3. PS3 is doing well in Spain but that's no surprise there but even in Spain sales have been steady for both. So PS3 is mainly winning in Spain and Japan rest of the world seems to be moving more towards the X360. Sales have risen steadily for X360 however in both those countries which is not good for PS3. I doubt X360 will ever take the lead in Spain or Japan but it still doesn't help it's cause. You can call me a fanboy all you want but by looking at the data X360 is a success so far for Microsoft while Sony is still struggling to make money on Playstation 3 and it's sales look terrible when compared to it's younger brethren(Playstation 2) during the same time in it's life cycle. PS3 will never catch up to X360 WW sales, however both systems will give eachother immense competition throughout this generation so either way it will end up a win/win situation for us gamers no matter which HD Console you prefer more.

How our favorite systems are just like humans and sometimes have issues finding their special someone...

Xbox 360 wants to KinectPS3 wants to Move!  Why are both systems having such relationship problems?  The reason is they both become so infactuated with desire while watching the Wii as it waggles on by. They simply want what they can't have.

Its because of 3 things:

1) Its cheaper
2) Online service is amazing
3) has a larger and better library of games.

@LordMatrix : 360 and PS3 have roughly the same installed base in Europe, PS3 leads in Japan, and 360 leads in the US. If you consider PS3 is twice as expansive as the 360, PS3 is clearly a success (360 would be dead now if it cost two PS3)

There's nothing else to say at this point. Both consoles (360 and PS3) are doing well and none of them is going anywhere. Wii is still the most successful though.

If you're talking about pure installed base, then PS2 wins by far, the Wii is second.

"Judging by the sales, it seems that the xbox 360 has been outselling the playstation 3 since the price cut"

AHHH... So you've noticed it to?

I did economics and I can say that price is the main sign of desire of a product. If the X360 is only 20%-10% above the PS3 in sales, but have at least a 25% price difference($299/399 = 74,9%), based on the average model, than we can say that the PS3 is the more desired. There's also the fact that the X360 sales are shared between the SKU's, but I would bet that if you took out the Arcade model, the sales would dip below PS3's. Let's face it, apart from the US, where people really like the X360, in the rest of the world people are getting the X360 only beacause the PS3 is still $399.
Last year prove my argument. While there wasn't a Arcade model and a price cut, the X360 was behind, after that it was in front. In matter of fact, if it repeated last year's sales up to now, the X360 would be on par or behind the PS3, and the PS3 is down YoY. The X360 is up YoY and in the beggining of 2009 was up almost 20%.
Just take a look at Killzone 2 realease week. The X360 was even down WoW, at 180k but up compared with the similar week in 2008(120k).The price cut and Arcade did it. The numbers shows it.

Ah, typical economist.

Yeah, the 360 is outselling the ps3. Microsoft will work hard at keeping a reasonable price difference so nothing will change.

Ah since you are such a trained individual, why don't you talk about the costs of staying 3 years + beyond the reach of consumers? Market share, mindshare, all that jazz. C'mon let the buzzwords out!

What about the substitution effect between the different SKUs? You'll have to estimate how many people would have bought a Premium had the Arcade not been available.

What about price discrimination? Microsoft price discriminates with the Arcade SKU and the Premium SKU. With no Arcade theres no price discrimination so its unlikely that the Premium would still be $300 today.

Then you have to work out the cross price elasticity between the new cheaper (sole) Premium SKU and the PS3 since without the Arcade the Premium would be cheaper.

Wait? You probably can't.
