Forums - Sony - Playstation "Cloud" is REAL

Recently someone on the Gametrailers forum claimed to be an insider and released this information about the rumored Playstation Cloud:
"Someone from SCEA consumer services told me something interesting. I recently called Sony's consumer services to complain to them about the lack of features, hoping they would forward it to the right people. The guy I talked to was like he had no idea if they are getting those features however he said that he has an orientation sometime next week for a new service with new features called PlayStation Cloud, he said that all he knows about it is what his manager had told him and that was that it will be something similar to FaceBook where you'll have a Newsfeed thing that will say all the things you've done or friends have done on PlayStation Network like your friend just played this and unlocked this trophy, changed his avatar or reached this level. He also said that there might be a lot of features more public because his manager told him that SCEA Corporate told his manager that they are looking for people within consumer services to become moderators for some of the features that will be in PlayStation Cloud. He said his manager doesn 't know much about it, just that Sony wants to make PlayStation Network become more social."
This information was quickly shot down by a bunch of game journalists but recent evidence has revealed that the playstation Cloud DOES exist
A small paragraph of information on PS 'Cloud' in July 09 issue of PSW magazine - page 73! Sorry about the crappy quality, the article reads:

You've always been able to create and share levels in PSN puzzler Echochrome, but an update will let you do this via 'Cloud'. This
system removes the need for Sony to check levels before being uploaded - an early problem for LittleBigPlanet...
Here is the link to the Scan:
This scan shows that the Playstation Cloud is infact real and we will probably be hearing about it in the coming weeks.
What do you think of this rumored Playstation "Cloud?"

Keep in mind that the original photo that surfaced was confirmed fake by Jeff Rubenstein:

"This 'mockup' is pure conjecture," Rubenstein said. "This is 100 percent fake."

Of course, he only said that what is presented as the PlayStation Cloud, in that image, is not real. He never said anything about "PlayStation Cloud" itself.

Jim, one of the moderators on gaf, was nice enough to point that out. He also noticed that Sony's trademark on the term "PlayStation Cloud" was updated just this past week:

This "PlayStation Cloud" most certainly exists.  What all it entails, however, remains to be seen.

Sony didn't change anything.  However, they were sent a request for more information concerning the patent from the USPTO.

See, they still haven't actually patented anything.  They just filed FOR a patent.  The registrability of the subject matter is still being determined.

Remember we were talking about this yesterday (or the day before yesterday now), where the 'hoax' picture and assumed feature set of Playstation Cloud didn't fit the definition of the term 'Cloud'. The description of Playstation Cloud presented in the magazine article is a better idea of how the cloud system works, and will probably extend to make player made levels and other content stream instantly through remote servers. Think of the OnLive concept, it's the same thing. I imagine Sony could also implement a games on demand system similar to what OnLive is imagining, giving players the ability to rent titles from the PlayStation Store just like you can with Movies, except without downloading either of course. Sony's Online Entertainment branch is the largest server farm I know of, running servers for not only Sony's MMOs and PSN network, but also Final Fantasy XI and many other MMOs for lots of developers.

We'll see where it goes, but I can definately see a system similar to this being implemented.

So it's a feature in echochrome, or a PSN feature that will be USED in echochrome?

Either way, it's not what random GameTrailers guy said it was.
