| TalonMan said: We've added a new feature to the site to allow users (whether registered members or not) to request game cheats and/or FAQs. The system works as follows: 1) On all game pages, there is a 'need help' graphic in the right column 2) Clicking on this brings up a form for you to select what types of cheats your are looking for and allows you to give a description of exactly what you are looking for. For non-members, there is the ability to add an optional email address for notification. 3) All users will see a 'queue' (in the same area where you normally see the 'messages' indicator) of requested cheats - you can filter the queue based on the request type. 4) Once a request has been fulfilled (IE. the cheat has been added and approved), the items will automatically be cleared from the queue and notification sent to the requester (via a PM if a registered user or an email (if supplied) to guests). 5) DBAdmins can optionally delete entries from the queue as they see fit. Any user that does not wish to participate in this can go to their 'edit profile' and, at the bottom, uncheck the 'Notify me of cheat requests' option.
The general idea here is to help members focus on cheats and faqs that are most desired by users. Like most new features, I consider this a 'work-in-progress' and will likely field many requests for enhancements and changes to the system as well as bug reports - this is the thread to tell me so!!! :) Happy cheating!!

So i can't make this message go away? So in 4 months its gonna say 600 cheats requested?
| superchunk said: Probably mentioned, but here's a few potential addons 1. auto filter cheat requests based on games that are actually in your 'owned' list. 2. ability to simply remove a cheat request from your notifications, vs all or none. |
Thats what I said. Thats all that needs to be added imo.
Cus now it just adds on to the cheats already requested. Imagine in a year or so.. "125936 cheats requested".
I wondered what that was.
I was about to suggest here that instead of "sending" it to people like me why not send it to those who have actually got the game.... but from skimming I realise it isn't like a PM service.... as in pretty much everyone on VGC will see the same 3 "cheat requests" in the corner.
So I have to suggest this:
Either make it actually part of the website rather than something in the control panel, as it doesn't really make much sense it being in there...... OR make it so it is a message sending service similar to PMs/friend requests etc but that it only sends to those who have the game added to their profile. I imagine the latter option might cause some problems though sending messages out to multiple people.... unless it works like a core so that only a link is sent to the game owners:
So on the database page for the game, someone clicks the "help" button.... and it creates their query within the games cheats/tips page.... ad then sends a link to those who own it.
I think that way more will be encouraged to use the function, because I know I am going to turn it off if I have to see the same "X cheat requests" in the panel which are mostly for games I don't own.

If you guys read the thread you would know that they are cleared when someone actually submits a cheat/walkthrough for it. Also, you would know that gameDB admins can delete them.

@TWRoO & others suggesting only sending to those who own the game
Some people never work on their game collection, and we want people to contribute and help others. We can add an option to disable requests for unowned games, but I wouldn't want it to be the only way the system works. Some people rented the games and never owned it, but could still write a simple FAQ or add passwords to the game page.

It still looks like ive got something pending all the time. I think this feature is great and i will surely use it if i get stuck. But, there should've been an easy way where you could "hide" the ones your not interested in. And not be forced to have it all or nothing.. imo.
Just a note I've seen from adding my own cheat requested. Ever since adding the cheat requested I've been bombarded with wall posts and messages. The intention is to have people add cheats to the game page. But that doesn't seem to be the action people are taking.
Why must JRPG female leads suck so bad?

True, but there will generally be enough people to help the user out.... which is what it is for.
The way it is now I think most people will just ignore it.... or indeed turn it off. This way no one has any clue about whether they own the game unless they click on the cheat requests link.... and if the requests are going to be dissapearing and appearing then you would need to keep checking it all the time just to know if there is a new game at all, never mind one that you could actually help with.
Personally I don't think the small number who don't update their game collections matters... The point of this function is to help the person who needs it, and for the majority of games there are enough people who have it added for them to notice.... some of the more obsure games with only a handful of VGC users added may not get replies... but then they also wouldn't with the current system because no one would anser them.

@nightstriker.... I was going to say something like that, I thought the majority would just end up with people PMing the user rather than putting it on thegame page, it makes it more personal and there is less stress on writing it properly, even if it helps fewer people.... I don't suppose there is anyway to stop this though.

For the people worried about thousands of cheats piling up, would it be possible to set a time limit on requests? If they sit in the queue for longer than a week or two just drop them?
-edit-
And I like these new features (though I wish I could make hints free) and it has even already encouraged me to submit things. ^^
