Let me guess, they play Call of Duty/Gears of War/Halo a.k.a. da cool kids' games? |
The mentality of asswipes being asswipes? Not sure if that's going anywhere with hardware upgrades, my friend...

I'm talking about future generations. If you didn't know it was there, then it's not going anywhere. You get what I'm saying?

I'm thinking that the conflict here has more to do with the relationship between the roomates and with the way people percieve a more family-friendly and culturally foreign product than it does with how many pixels either box can push.
But, the future you propose does intrigue me. Tell me more SHMUP, tell me more...

Haha! I do think the Wii is like this generation's NES: it will revolutionize how we see games from now on. The effect doesn't seem to be present in people's minds for now because this generation is still young, but remember the main point of video games in the past. It used to be graphics, also called the Bit Wars.
Now, Nintendo introduces motion controls, Sony and Microsoft follow this idea, and I'm certain that what we'll be seeing later on is a Motion Control Wars. I do believe the same conflicts will happen (I mean people taking sides), but I'm sure the arguments will be more intelligent from now on instead of comparing dick sizes between each other (that's how I see their conflict right now). Instead of imagining rational things, irrational conversations will surely occur and it will push companies to try doing the impossible. With graphics, the best you can do is recreate how we see life right now. With motion controls, you can try to create new things, not just things we've been doing our whole life (like punching a ball, etc.). The Motion Control Wars will incite companies to try to develop new things we couldn't imagine before, and I can't wait to see what it's going to be. Virtual reality, is it really going to happen? We'll be entering in a sci-fi era soon and we might not even recognize it.
