Forums - Sales - Activision trying to find out how fast they can kill Guitar Hero franchise?

I think you're missing the point. There are people who don't buy Guitar Hero because of the lack of music selection of their taste. I don't like Beastie Boys and find those songs horrible. I would not buy Metelica, but I would by David Bowie. The mistake your making is that the varients off the main line is for GH players, but it's not. The other varients are for GH players than don't play because they don't like the song list.

Milking a franchise is under the idea that your intend to sell the new product to the same core base. Since this is not the case and it's meant to expand the player base by offering more appealing tracks to others. It's not milking, but haven't I replied to you on this before? Even if it wasn't you the fact that this subject comes up often enough shows more a self centered mentality. Since a non self centered mentality would appreciate that Activision is trying to bring the joy of there GH games to a bigger audience.

Thank god, someone seems to get it. I don't mind the BB (not a big fan or anything), but I think the Beatles are extremely overrated. Beatles:RB (lol, backwards) is not for me. Same with Lego Rock Band and its poppy songs. However, I love Metallica, so I bought that. I don't like Van Halen in particular, so I will either skip that or buy it for $15 used. The only person that I can think of right now who could be the "same core base" is my Spanish teacher, who has every GH game after 2 (and both Rock Bands) on his PS2, and does not use his system for anything but GH and RB.

exactly

and I'd like to add, that GH has to broaden it's audience way faster than before, because now there is direct competion, which could (and does) serve specific interests before they have the chance to (and that's what they have to prevent)

Yes, it's like Sonic and Mario. Who won that again? Ah yes, Mario... The mario that played tennis, golf, drove Go Karts threw parties, and now swims, runs track, plays soccer and basketball... (Keep in mind I'm a sonic fan)

I actually think it is ok if they offer different versions with differing music styles etc...

Hm... These are probably the best replies I've read in this thread. Maybe there should be a Guitar Hero Defense Squad (like the sonic one) to keep the HMX trolls at bay... So far I've been trying to do that on my own, but it would be better as a group effort...

Why is DJ Hero getting lumped into this? If any rhythm game from either publisher is showing any originality, it's DJ Hero. It appeals to a different musical fanbase. It uses a brand new peripheral. I just don't see how that is milking.

Because HMX fanboys like to lump everything together so they can complain more.

I stopped caring about Guitar Hero after the crappy GH3.

While Rock Band is being milked as well, it isn't certainly as bad.

Lego Rock Band ought to help with that.

I'm personally bored of both GH and RB now. I don't think I'm going to be purchasing any more entries of either franchise.

Yep

Lego Rock Band
Beatles Rock Band
Rock Band Country Track Pack

Did I miss any?

All that is DLC released on disc for those who aren't hooked up to internet/don't like credit cards.

And Beatles: Rock Band is an example of a good spin off.

You know what killed Guitar Hero for me? When Activision sued Brutal Legend. Screw you Activision, I'm getting Rock Band instead.

I gave up Guitar Hero once Rockband decided to come out with a Beatles version.

Not to mention that I can still use RB1 songs with RB2 yet I don't think I can use the DLC from GH3 with GH:WT.

I'm thinking about buying GH:Aerosmith and rock unplugged when i get the chance and maybe RB2,Yeah i agree it's getting milked the fad is Dying also..Call of duty is getting there also.

Rock Band 2 is like crack cocaine with 3 other friends.

What is Guitar Hero?

Leatherhat on July 6th, 2012 3pm. Vita sales:"3 mil for COD 2 mil for AC. Maybe more. "  thehusbo on July 6th, 2012 5pm. Vita sales:"5 mil for COD 2.2 mil for AC."

I only have 1 Guitar Hero game, GH3, I still like it but Rock Band 2 is the best one. I wont be buying any GH or RB games for a while, unless I choose to get Beatles Rock Band, but I'm not interested in GH:VH, GH:5, Lego RB, Band Hero or any other kind of Hero game.

^_^

Guitar hero and Rockband games to me feels like im doing a long and boring mini game that never ends.

i don't know why anyone would buy this crap.

Guitar Hero is definentaly getting milked to death, and rockband will lose lots of fans becaus eof the LEGO RockBand game
