Quite a few people, apparently O_o

This game is a good example of what NOT to show to the public too soon. The only thing I remember and still associate with the game is: "hot dog arms" and "hot dog arms" didn't look like he'd be much fun.

If the game was on the Wii, it'd have to be a more direct sequel to the original with 2.5d graphics for the fans to eat it up. They alienated the original user base by making the game so.... different...

Prepare for termination! It is the only logical thing to do, for I am only loyal to Megatron.

I was watching my son play the demo (which he loves) on 360 but it's a shame the game has totally and completely bombed on the HD systems.   My son will definately pick it up but he's in no hurry and can wait 6-12 months to pick up for $10-$20.

It occured to me this game would have had a lot better chance of success of Wii for the following reasons:

1) More retro/older gamers on Wii would probably remember Bionic Commando

2) Virtually no FPS competition.  Look at all the hype and presales for The Conduit which is an a vanilla a FPS as you can get (without Wii controls).   If Wii owners are excited about a vanillia FPS from a no-name developer like HVS, how much more excitement would a unique, FPS from Capcom have?

3) It wouldn't sell gangbusters on Wii either but the development cost would be 1/2 - 1/4 of on the HD systems.   So 500k would easily clear a profit and that would be virtually guaranteed on Wii.   Whereas BC now needs close to 1m in sales between the HD systems - something that will clearly never happen.

4) Wii owners might be more inclined to get the unique gameplay of BC a try, whereas is appears HD gamers would rather stick to the formula they know.

5) BC could easily be dropped to a T rating for Wii audiences as well further enhancing sales without sacrificing any element of the gameplay.   But even maintaining it's M rating it should be able to reach the same 1m that Red Steel and CoD3, CoDWaW enjoy.

Thoughts?

1) What makes you think Wii owners are older on average than PS360 owners?

2) Bionic Commando isn't an FPS.

3) Agreed- 500k would make a profit

4) How many unique games on Wii sell well? Look at MadWorld, for example. Wii Fit is pretty unique, but in a different kind of way.

5) No it wouldn't. Red Steel was a launch title, and CoD is a very large series.

It wouldn't do any better on Wii, to be honest.

Frankly this is excuse after excuse, the type of thing that Wii users are more commonly forced to have to resort to.

Still its about time that there was a big game that no one could possibly dispute was an abject failure despite reviews, advertising, dev. pedigree and popularity of recent remake prior to release .
I can't say why the game failed but clearly due to legs and low sales on the PS360 the wii version would be assured of more sales over time.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

How can you say that with absolute certainty?

For every multiplat that sells best on Wii, there are ten that sell double, even triple, on the other consoles.

Well, the best way to make Bionic Commando do better would having it not suck. I haven't played it, so I'm not saying it does in fact, suck, but the general consensus seems to be that it does.

Wha? I have played it and thought it is a great little title.  I very much doubt it would be below 85% on metacritic on gamerankings, who is this general consensus you having been talking to? They need to be shot.

It's at about 70 on Metacritic. A lot of people have complained about, among other stuff, linearity and ridiculous plot points. Personally, as I said, I haven't played it, but I did read up on the ridiculous plot twist and thought it was the dumbest thing I'd ever heard - However, that's no reason to disregard a game. If it plays well, it shouldn't really matter. Most people don't seem to think it does play well, though.

Eh? I see 87 for PS3 version from Metacritic, 85 for the 360 version.  88.35% Gamerankings PS3 version, 87.66% for the 360 version.  Where did that 70 come from? Am I looking in the wrong place?

Bionic Commando Rearmed is a good game why would anyone complain about a sidescroller being linear? Are mistaking someone's minority opinion on the game to be the majority opinion?

erm.. the thread is about Bionic Commando (the "new" game) and not Rearmed (which you're talking about)

Oh my bad xD I'll have to go try out the new one then, didn't even know it was out =o

Forget everything I've said this thread.

I agree on this one... Im still shocked why the HD versions bombed, cosnidering the fairly solid hye it got from gamers... well to bad :(

Vote the Mayor for Mayor!

The game received a 72 on Metacritic. With all the anti-Wii bais i would predict a Wii version would earn even worse scores. The points in the OP, are for the most part vaild, but a crappy game on any system shouldnt sell.

Hmmm... Some very good responses here in this thread like this one (some lousy ones too).   I think I've been proven wrong in my assumptions.

I do think the Wii fans would hype it more since theres so few quality titles of this nature on Wii but end sales would probably end up about the same.
