Forums - Gaming - 1UP Review: Monster Hunter Unite - A (100/100)

"Freedom Unite is a huge game, and, naturally, a little intimidating. But not only are you getting the best installment of the Monster Hunter franchise so far (though Monster Hunter 3 will no doubt be just as grand), you're getting an enormous action RPG that gives you a lot in return for putting a lot in. And it can potentially keep you attached to your PSP longer than you ever thought."

Wow, quite surprising, I was a bit turned off by the demo but I might give this one another shot.

An A? Really? (btw, A doesn't translate into 100. There's an A+ score at 1UP too. But seeing it get an A is really surprising.)

I thought, judging by other MHs, future MH games would get decent reviews this time (7-8) but an A is pretty nice for this game.

Pretty good review (and yes I read it :P).

That's what I was thinking, but metacritic has an 100 score for it, so I'll roll with that =)

That's interesting. 1UP/EGM has always hated the Monster Hunter series usually giving it below a 6 or 7.

They haven't changed anything, so I'm curious as to why the sudden "A".

Never trust the Metacritic Letter-Number system.

They have both A+ and A as 100. A should be 95 or so. Which is still excellent.

Wow! 100? I am very surprised.

Oh. That's weird. Maybe metacritic translated the score wrong. It's a reason I don't really like the whole letter review system.

The guys at 1up bash metacritic all the time in their podcast for this reason. Metacritic essentially just assigns a random number score to their letters. I think last week they were complaining that they gave a game a B- (a good but not great score) and metacritic translated it as a "60" or something.

I don't think 1up should conform just for the sake of metacritic either. I know what an A is, I know what a B is as far as quality goes. If metacritic can't wrap it's mind around it then that's metacritic's problem, not 1up's. Besides, metacritic is only a tool for fanboy wars. If I ran a website I would try to come up with a review system that would ensure that my reviews weren't being accurately factored into metacritic too.

It's worth it if you can fight through the frustration of trying to advance.

Different reviewer, I would imagine.

Bullshit, the demo sucked major balls, this game sucks.
