The guys at 1up bash metacritic all the time in their podcast for this reason. Metacritic essentially just assigns a random number score to their letters. I think last week they were complaining that they gave a game a B- (a good but not great score) and metacritic translated it as a "60" or something.
I don't think 1up should conform just for the sake of metacritic either. I know what an A is, I know what a B is as far as quality goes. If metacritic can't wrap it's mind around it then that's metacritic's problem, not 1up's. Besides, metacritic is only a tool for fanboy wars. If I ran a website I would try to come up with a review system that would ensure that my reviews weren't being accurately factored into metacritic too.
