interesting, i just hope that games that require their motion controler, also gives ppl the option of using a dualshock 3 instead.

I guess you're thinking of Lair, which should have supported Dualshock, but games made fully to the motion controllers (think a Wii Sports clone) should stick to the motion controllers only.  If they game is really designed right it would be worse on the motion controllers.

Controls wasn't one of lairs major problems.. there were a few annoyances but controls were pretty nice.. it was everything else that was a disaster. The fucked up changes in difficulty from 1 level to another, the terrible story terribly executed with some horrid  cutscenes containing awful dialogue from poorly performing actors.. Not to mention the frame rate issues.

The controls did have 1 flaw though. You couldn't properly stop your dragon which was freaking annoying :p

what you just said about lair is the reason why i liked it over its obvious control flaws. the story was superb, the cutscenes were nice but had some odd angles, and the voiceacting was decent. despite the controls and the rare frame rate drops, the game was awesome. i bought it for 50 and i still own it and enjoy it today.

one mans critcism is another mans praise

OT: both microsoft and sony have some impressive tech, that if implemented and executed properly can tackle the wii and steal some extra marketshare. lets see how it plays out.

Regarding the release date, there are three possibilities here...

1- They're going to rush out a few very simple games for it to release in 2010, with a development cycle of less than 1 year.

2- They have quality software on track for a spring 2010 release, but didn't show it.

3- It will come later than spring 2010.

Alternative 1 seems foolish... they need well made games to generate enthusiasm for the new controller.

Alternative 2 doesn't make much sense... E3 is not a game developers conference, it's a wide-audience conference... showing tech demos and not games goes against the spirit of the conference.

In conclusion, alternative 3 seems the most likely...

it looks fine except for this part
"with any games across all genres from casual to core."
which casual gamer is going to spending 400 dollars on the basic system then 35 bucks on the camera then a bunch of wands(price unknown atm,) then from PSN store of anywhere from a couple bucks to a 60 dollar game just so they can enjoy archery on it? for crying out loud, drop the damn price first!

I like your logic, however I wonder if the benefits MS arguably saw getting to market first with 360 (with rushed HW and a small library) will colour Sony's view - i.e. they will rush to market rather than wait.

From all the evidence, and given the EyeToy is in place and they seem to have the basic SW/SDK in place or nearly there, if they get the 'wands' sorted out smartish they could probably launch in the stated timeframe with a minigame title or titles - some Wii Sports rip off stuff, maybe some simple painting, doodling fun and a gladiator / combat title, etc.

I suspect if they do the initial SW memory requirements, etc. will not be ideal but will be fine to support some initial titles, and as with XMB they'll work on the SW to get the footprint down and follow with bigger titles at a later stage.

Logically, though, they should probably go for option 3 as you outlined it.

Still, guessing is fun, isn't it?

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

By the time it gets released they can just as well have ps3 slim+eye+wand bundled into $400 box.

Face/Head tracking are already in the current dev kits. I don't think Sony was able to quickly add these features to the SDK and go back in time to ship them to Devs prior to E3. I guess I am saying that Natal's demonstration didn't influence Sony.

My biggest concern with both this and Natal is Sony/MS will delay first/third party games to include non-sensical motion/gesture schemes just to show increased support for their products. I like to exert as little energy as possible while playing video games.

Thanks for the input, Jeff.

Great...more motion control! As long as they don't shoehorn the next killzone, god of war or uncharted into this I can live with it.

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!

Check out this awesome video of the creator of the PS Eye and Eye Toy demoing the tech for the PS2 camera at a lecture back in 2005.
