Forums - Sales - NPD: May’s Top 20 PC Games

Activision titles again took seven of the top 20 positions on the NPD Group’s monthly PC chart, while EA games scooped five.

The former’s World Of Warcraft expansion Wrath of the Lich King was the bestseller during May, while the latter’s The Sims 2 Double Deluxe held second place.

In fact, only two non-Activision Blizzard/EA titles made the top ten, with Sega’s Empire: Total War and Interplay’s Fallout Trilogy charting in fifth and ninth respectively.

Expect The Sims 3 to enter near the top of June’s rankings.

1. World Of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King (Activision Blizzard)
2. The Sims 2 Double Deluxe (Electronic Arts)
3. World Of Warcraft: Battle Chest (Activision Blizzard)
4. World Of Warcraft (Activision Blizzard)
5. Empire: Total War (Sega)
6. Spore (Electronic Arts)
7. Left 4 Dead (Electronic Arts)
8. The Sims 2 Apartment Life (Electronic Arts)
9. Fallout Trilogy (Interplay)
10. Starcraft: Battle Chest (Activision Blizzard)
11. World Of Warcraft: Burning Crusade (Activision Blizzard)
12. Demigod (Stardock)
13. Real Deal Slots Adventure (Phantom EFX)

World of Warcraft is to PC gaming what the Wii brand games are to consoles. Who would have thought a game released in 2004 would still be in the top five in 2009?

If you took out Will Wrights games and Blizzard you would only have 10 games on that list! The PC market is even worse than Nintendo for having evergreen titles.

Edit: make that 9!!!

Tease.

Nice to see interplay is on that list

All of ActiBliz' old games seem to be doing extremely well. Starcraft and Diablo are both over 10 years old, and they're in the top 20!

This list is explained by the lackof new good games. Pc is perfect for Strategy, WRPG and FPS. The Devs should explore this. We are still waiting for new IPs of the Caliber of Diablo, Starcraft or Civilization.

P.s.: Are Downloaded games tracked?

That still flabbergast me. Fallout Trilogy still making the NPD rating. Outside of Sim City that is one of the oldest games on there. Fallout is a true testament to classic PC gaming. cudos to the old Interplay and thank you to those who have bought the game(my self included). To you. You are helping to create Fallout Online.

Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.

Starcraft still in the top 10 after over 11 years.

the top 4 is pretty meh-ish.....

Fallout 3 can play on any computer. So for the wider market who don't have a clue on what their computer can run they can still play Fallout 3. The same applies to the Sims/Valve/Blizzard games. The games which do require a stronger computer are RPG and Strategy games, no real FPS games to speak of despite so many people professing that the PC platform is perfect for such games.
