different times to try and achieve this) the Super Mario line of games has achieved the 5 million mark TWICE in only four main series games!

It's already been mentioned in this thread but Animal Crossing DS sold more than any Final Fantasy game, too. AC Wii, though, didn't even come close.

I have no idea how popular a 2D console game in 2009 is going to be, but I don't expect it to match the DS version.

Also FF as a series has been declining in Japan since FFVII if you go by those numbers. FFXIII may be the lowest selling FF game in the series since FFVII in Japan and it may not even sell more than 2M copies.

true animal crossing DS Sold better on the DS then Animal crossing Wii did on the wii but if you look a little bit closer you will notice that this 

is only becasue Animal lends itself much better at being a portable expierience then a console one.

 

Super mario games, although can be, have tipically been sit down games console expireinces.

you cannot compare AC to NSMB, they are two completly different expiereinces

also mario has been proven on consoles as big hits, so i could see mario hitting 2 mil easy in japan. But we dont know how big 2D mario still is, its been abt 15 years since the last one

FF may explode out of the gates a bit faster, but NSMB Wii is going to clobber it in the long run. I'm with Squilliam on this one, I wonder what kind of numbers FFXIII will even be able to put up for it's lifetime sales. (In japan.)

Good job ignoring FF X.

 

XI was an MMO so of course it isn't going to sell much.

 

XII...well...I think we all know why it didn't sell as well.

I dont know if anyone noticed but the 360 has sales of 204,225 units for the same period.. with only 1 title (SO:LH) in the top 50... not too bad I'd say for a dead fish console..

PS3 will defntly pull some weight on ninty with a price cut and FF13



Doubt is not a pleasant condition, but certainty is absurd.

5 THINGS I'd like to see before i knock out:

a. a AAA 3D sonic title

b. a nintendo developed game that has a "M rating"

c. redesgined PS controller

d. SEGA back in the console business

e. M$ out of the OS business

That's nice. Now here's the million dollar question. What does ANY of that have to do with my comment?

I said that I agree with Alfred that NSMB won't be as popular as the DS game.

Also, I was just clarifying that the PS3 hasn't had a game hit a million in Japan yet and pointing a possibility of there being 2 if released this year could hit that mark.

So please try commenting as a "comment" instead of replying me with your list of games when I wasn't comparing anything except for a DS game with a WII game.

I was pointing out that the PS3 games you mentioned will not come close to what the Wii games will do, and even if NSMB Wii isn't as popular as the DS version it'll still be huge
