Maybe I did something wrong, but when I try to go to the Materia shop in Cosmo Canyon, looking to buy HP and MP Plus Materias, the guy is asleep. I'm just past the part in Wutai, so I don't know if I have to be a certain distance in the game or what.

Yeh I'm pretty sure you have to go there again because of the story and when you go there the second time thats when you can buy all that stuff. I'm not sure exactly when this happens but yes he's asleep at first but then later on he wakes up and you can buy stuff from him.

You have to go there again with Red, for Bugenhagen.

Emerald Weapon is the 2nd hardest boss fight in the game... it can take 9999 of of EVERYONE in the party. Id advise not even attempting it until your party is maxed out, and have several master materias/summons.

Also, id HIGHLY suggest you train in the Crashed Gelnika, and get the "Double Cut" materia. Its the best place until you get to the lower part of the Northern Crater.

Also, the "Unknown" monsters can be morphed into source items, so its a VERY good place to train.

Id also suggest looking around the sea bed for caves

No he can pick Could if you get all the best stuff, wig, dress etc

No, in fact he can also choose Aeris. 

 

But for him to choose Cloud, you need to get the best kind of each possible accesory, and even then, there is only a small chance of that Corneo will choose Cloud. 

I have had like 10 files or more of this game, and only once has he chosen Cloud.

I think it's just fun to see Cloud getting into awkward situations.  They failed to do that with Squall very much... = (
