Forums - Sales - Why isn't FF7 on XBLA? will it EVER be on there?

Well sony did publish the playstation 1 game in the U.S and in Europe, so who knows.

Why isnt crash bandicoot on XBLA?

Crash 1-warped is still owned by Naughty dog, if you buy it on PSN the money is going to naughty Dog.

as for SCEA publishing FFVII , they did also publish Kingdom hearts 1-2 right? , didn't they announce to port them on Wii ? (i dont know if its confirmed)

yea being a publisher doesn't mean anything...its about what rights you have

id like to think its because microsoft finally is going to release an original and cool rpg on the xbla service. no more retreads, and rereleases, a true and great rpg, or a sequel to an old game that never had one. (or even fallout 3, OG style).

but those awesome ideas probobly are not why.

Last year's game of the year turned out to be Silent Hill : Shattered Memories (online GOTY was COD 6).  This year's GOTY leader to me is Heavy Rain.

Wii Friend Code: 4094-4604-1880-6889

I remember XBLA having size limits. But I just noticed that NCAA game is like over a gig. FF7 would be a nice addition and guaranteed to sell, but it won't happen.

Because releasing a copy on the PSN store is equivalent to making an ISO image of the game. They'd actually have to do some work to get it to run on a 360 (though I'd assume it wouldn't be much work to get a PS1 game to run on a 360).

Because they're afraid of fan(boy)s going mad at them? Because they don't think it would be that good to them and want to keep up some reputation of 'loyalty' (not that I cared, at this point at least)? Because it would require some extra work? A deal of some sort with Sony?

Seriously though, I don't really know. But then there's tons of other things that are just like this (I think).

Last time I checked..SONY has rights to FF7 - 10

FFVII

Only in America and Europe and only as far as retail goes...They might hold some sway in said regions for console retail releases I'm not sure...

This would not prevent the game from coming to XBLA in any legal way...

Edios published the Windows version....So technically MS already got FFVII....And now the Right revert back to SE

Further more a port of the Windows version can come the Xbox 360....

Square can release the game at retail In Japan on Xbox 360 and distribute to some other International places...

FFVIII

Sony Published the PAL version

Square teh Japan version

Square EA handled the NA version and since that merger has been dissoveled (Which was only a Publishing deal) Square has the NA Rights again

Edios again released the Windows  version so the same rules apply...SE get the rights to the windows versions...

FFIX

Japan: Square

EU:Infrogames

Square Eroupe handled the rest of UK and the Aussie version

No windows version

FFX

Japan: Square along with Int version

NA: Square EA

PAL: SCE Eroupe

So basically.....Sony has the right only in certain Regions and those right only strecth as far as retail for Consoles..

Since FFVII had a Windows version it is possible for it to appear on Xbox 360 via digital Download and no retail....

In conclusion...No SONY does not have the rights to anything related to FF...It only helped publish the game in certain Region and only on the PS brand....So basically for the most part Sony has control over the PS version of FF game from FFVII to FFX to a small extent...Sony would not be able to publish the games again with out SE's permisson...SE on the other hand can do what ever they want with the FF games fro VII to X....
