LordTheNightKnight said: "Clearly its a risky endeavor."
Unwritten implication is it is more risky than supporting HD systems alone, which is false. Capcom themselves found that out when their profits plummeted last year, due to the time and money some of these games are taking. |
If HD consoles are more risky than why are major developers still ignoring the Wii? |
Your question was answered when Capcom decided to move Monster Hunter 3 to the wii, Square decided to move DQ X to the wii, or even Codemasters dol Overlord for the wii. Those are just samples really, but are among biggest gaming franchises.Ignoring doesnt matches well when they bring biggest franchises in an exclusive format isnt it?

Poor examples in my opinion. I don't hear people clamoring for any of those. |
Monster hunter is quite clamored by gamers. and in Japan its quite expected with hundreths of sites devoted to it, as well as an special edition to it.The only PS3 game(since its release) to have a similar expectation is FFXIII. For decades the reservations of DQ have been known to be one of the higuest in history.Just because -you-a single individual with partial knowledge of a topic- doesnt "thinks" or "hears" makes it less revelant.Your opinion has no bearing on facts. Is like me saying ooh i think Mariooo is not a big franchise.Yes i can have the opinion, but is silly to think it has weight on solid numbers and facts.

"In Japan" being the keyword. Wii is the only console with respectable console sales in Japan and that's the country where the game will get a vast majority of its sales. That's the same reason Wii is getting Tatsuko vs Capcom.
Your Mario analogy would make more sense if it wasn't a huge franchise all over the world (at least the parts people play video games).

the problem is that Japan isnt an itby bitsy market, its one of the greatests in size.If you said in UK , or NZ, id say sure, but Japan is a massively huge market(affecting worldwide sales big time). Also, your point would therefore be wrong if we only count big US franchises.Following that, Halo3 is not a big franchise in the world, because in japan(and other markets) it isnt very popular and since japan its part of the world... It really doesnt matters if there are some regions where its more important. This is even more critical ,when the game is released WORLDWIDE and not just in Japan either. On size and production costs, its also obvious that MH3 is among most expensive projects Capcom has right now, and on the side of DQX ,its also one of the biggest Square Enix undertakings. Lets say RE5 AND SF4 come for wii. What really big exclusive would have the PS3 from Capcom left?On the other hand, wii would still have MH3, tatsunoko vs capcom ,RE5 ,SF4 and RE Darkside Chronicles plus Spyborgs. For me its a big clear interest in the console, even if they have to spend more money to move the experience.Heck, they even did it with DR CTYD, which didnt go to PS3 but just Wii(although they didnt tackle the idea properly due to developer issues.Shouldnt a 360 game much easier to port into the PS3(well it would look much more closely). Lets say now, ubisoft. Ubisoft develops lately multiplats for PS3-360-PC.Sure the wii doesnt get the multiplat version(of some games), instead they develop exclusive wii games( Red Steel 2). When they do a game exclusive ,they know they trust AND respect that single market a lot more than the other way around.Developing exclusively for the wii instead of PC version that ALSO happens to go to ps3 and 360 shows a higher level of attention to that market. Of course Ubi and most US developers cant compare in size with Konami, Capcom or Square, but even those show a high level of attention to the wii lately than before.
