Forums - Sales - PS3/360 Gap not getting any bigger...

Technically, it is slowly getting bigger.

But hey, GT5 is yet to be released, and PS3 is yet to hit mass market pricing.
We aint seen a slim for PS3 yet, and we have no idea if MS wants to get a slim 360 out.
Natal/Sony Motion could increase sales for one or the other.

This gen is FAR from over.

Sony will mostly do a price cut at the end of the year that will help it during the holidays. I honestly expect both systems to sell pretty close to even during the holidays if Sony's does their price cut and Microsoft doesn't retaliate. If both of them do a price cut M$ will definitely beat out Sony during the holidays. Neither will beat the Wii, but I think it might be a bit closer then the past 2 years.

I doubt Sony's motion sensor will make much of an impact if it's released this year, but we'll see. Microsoft Natal doesn't come out until Fall next year. Both Sony and Microsoft have some nice exclusives this fall, so I don't see that making a huge difference in sales, except maybe in Japan since FF XIII will be released there this year. GT 5 won't be out until next year I think and so will Halo: Reach (maybe Gear 3 too).

Right now the Xbox 360 is slowly pulling away and this is during the downtime where Sony usually has stronger sales. XBox 360 sales usually aren't good in the Summer. They do their best sales the last 4 months of the year. The PS3 is close mainly because of the nice exclusive it has released over the last 3 months. Some good games were released in Japan as well, which gave the PS3 a nice surge over the Wii for a few weeks in Japan. Halo ODST will move a lot of XBox 360 in Sept though.

2009 sales:

PS3 - 3.08 million

360 - 3.37 million

So the gap is actually quite small, just 10%. I think this is disappointing for Microsoft, though sales are not great for either company to tell the truth.

Microsoft isn't just interested in Sony. They also now want to go after Nintendo. It would be presumptive that Microsoft would base its pricing strategy on what Sony does alone. If they feel they can gain on Nintendo by cutting prices, they will.

Like Richard here said...

Besides, market for these HD consoles is pretty much the same.

Xbox  360 advantage - attractive price, great and cheap back catalog of games, things like netflix

PS3 advantage - bluray, Playstation brand name, some big exclusives released this year

What is so aggrevating to me is that technically PS3 already had....

-Netflix

-Facebook

-Twitter

-Motion sensing camera

but somehow these things are new when coming to 360 0_o? WTF?

now we also have

-Vidzone

-Youtube

-Pretty much any site available on the interwebs

-no fee for any of it except Netflix but thats just the standard

-etc.

Sigh......this is why I say the general consumer is stupid.......

So the Natal is simply a motion sensing camera like the eyetoy?

Sigh.........this is why I say that fanboys are stupid........
Also with your sig should you be questioning anyones elses for being flaimbiat?

If you actually did some research you would know that the Natal is doing nothing the PSEye has not already shown it can do. MILO? See Eyedentify for PSEYE revealed countless years ago. Look at Sony's conference. The Motion sensing is not just with the wands, its with the already existing PSEYE!!! PSEye has voice recognition, it has motion sensing, it has depth perception. What else did you think was reading those wands on SOny's conference?

Yea, so maybe you shouldn't speak anymore before you only further embarass yourself....

You're asking if i have done research?

That's rich.
If you have you would know that the pseye reacts to colour changes and movement so is limited to 2d (no depth perception or why do its games need marked cards to show it where to put its nintendogs?) and is simply on level with the xbox vision and thats about it wheras Natal see colour changes, DEPTH (3D) using two camera and IR, voice recognition, facial recognition

You've really shown yourself up here, pseye has depth perception? like you said it needs wands to read 3d but Natal does it by itself.
Pseye needs a well lit room but natal can work in very dark rooms thanks to the IR it has. You knew that didn't you?

Guess not from reading your comments.
saying Natal is just like Pseye is like saying the Wiimote is simply sixaxis.

The PS3 is 7.8+ mil behind the 360. Some great exclusives have helped the PS3 pull relatively even weekly in hardware during these first 6 months of the year. Is this good for Sony considering the cost difference between the 360 and PS3 (matter of opinion)? Or is this good for MS considering that the 360 has still outsold the PS3 will little to no exclusive game releases (matter of opinion).

Both holiday line-ups are amazing and (depending on preference) cancel each other out.

As you have indicated a price-cut/slim model is needed in the Holiday, otherwise the 360 will dominate 2009's holiday season the same as it did in 2008. I am excited for exclusives on both consoles and will be picking up quality titles for both, but without a change is strategy for Sony, 360 increases the lead possibly another 1-3 million.

Considering price points, and the 360 has "The best games and most exclusives" it should be VERY dissapointing.

The PS360 gap isn't supposed to widen or get shorter until 4th quarter.

I had no idea this year had been that bad for both consoles

Great cherry picking, PS3 fans always say the 360 has no exclusives except for maybe Ninja Blade, lolz...  Compared to the PS3's BEST LINEUP EVAR IN THE HISTORY OF VIDEO GAMES!!!  I'm surprised that the 360 still sells any systems at all.

1. Im not cherry picking anything...

2. The quoted part is infact, a recent quote from Greenberg, incase you didnt know.

3. The quote itself, is bullshit.

A price drop on the current 80 gb PS3 is not possible, they will be losing too much money on it. But if Sony does what the 360 did, which is release something like the arcade console then Sony can end up making a lot of money. They can release a slimmed down  20-40 gb PS3 and sell it for 249.99...I think if they do that people will buy it like crazy...also, if they drop the price of the PS3 to 349.99 and bundle it with Uncharted 2 or GT5, it will boost the sales like crazy!
