I think PS4 will still include a physical format.

The PS is created with a goal to dominate the living room. They would want to include a physical format that you can play all your physical movie collections.

I suppose it all depends on when the PS4 is going to be realeased. If it's going to be within the next two or three years, then Sony should be able to manage sticking with Blu-ray for PS4 games, particularly if they use Quad-layered 100GB discs.

Even if Sony chooses not to stick with Blu-ray for PS4 games though, I have little doubt that the PS4 will be capable of playing blu-ray discs.

In my opinion, the smartest move Sony could make with the PS4 is to stay consistent. Use the Cell Processer again, but use a more powerful version of it such as the PowerXCell 8i. Use blu-ray but improve the disc read speed and introduce Quad-layerd discs. Increase the HDD size to 500 and increase the amount of RAM. If Sony could do all this while launching the PS4 at $399.99 with all the PSN functionality the PS3 currently enjoys for no cost as well as other expanded features such as Home, full compatability with PS1/PS3 and maybe even PS2 games. Finally, bundle it with a PlayStation Eye, their new motion controllers, an improved DualShock 4, and a bluetooth wireless microphone. I think Sony could have a real winner next-gen.

DD has one problem though... the need for back up. And if your hardware broke down and you lost all your saves and so on. It would hurt you really bad.

But wouldnt it be sweet to just power up your machine and play everything you had. No need to walk up an change discs if you feel like playing something else after a 10h Madden NFL session with your firends or whatever. You could just turn it off and boot up some co-op shooter for a while. Everything accessible within a few seconds. Music and Video stores, Game downloads and anything installed on your hard drive. You wouldnt even need to leave your livingroom if you wanted to download your latest pre-order of that new awesome game you've been longing for.

DD FTW!

PS1 was CD.

And what do you mean more optimized BD??? the only thing that can be improved is the drive, not the disc. And there are already 400GB BD's... that will most likely be more than enough for the 8th gen. SONY just needs to install a faster drive, and although probably won't be needed; a drive that can read 4 layered discs [100GB BD]. The 2x drive in the ps3 is the main reason for the installs that some games carry....

As for pricing, this should be much cheaper than the PS3 launch.... just look at the difference in the costs of BD players today.

I think they will go with Blu-Ray again as it is growing in the market.

Most likely a 12x Blu-ray drive (about 54MB/s) and 100-200GB discs will be enough.

They will probably go with Blu Ray and they won't upgrade the system as much so they can launch the PS4 at $299 or even $249 and be making money on each console sale.

I bet it will be more like a PS3.5 then a PS4.

if they want blu-ray to be megaly successful, then yes the ps4 will.
