Forums - Sony - Is SIXAXIS officially now irrelevant?

You guys that are defending SixAxis by naming a single forgetable part of a handful of games are actually making the OP's point for him. I hope you're trying to be ironic with your "there's one power in InFamous that uses it!! It totally couldn't have been done with the analogue sticks!! What about when you walk on the log in Uncharted!!! Or those two shooting segments in Heavenly Sword (which, admitedly, were fun...)!!"

It was pointless, tacked on, and often less functional then simply doing it with the analogues either in games with that option or in the 360 version of the game.

I certainly agree, that in the beginning it felt very tacked on, and it was pretty much just useless.

But since then, there have been several games that actually had good use of it, whether you like it or not, and the point we're making, is that this will probably continue to happen.

Yes, all those things could have been done with the regular controller options, but what argument is that, when the Sixaxis has done some of these things better than the regular controls would?

Therefor, no it isn't just dead weight any more. There are actually games out there that make good use of it, and improves the game by using them.

No. It will continue to get minor useless uses... It will only shine in a few select titles like Folklore and perhaps Heavy Rain in the future....

4 ≈ One

Why should it have been 'relevant'. No PS3 owner in their right mind wanted PS3s main contrller to be motion control. It serves its function, an added feature, and thus is at least 10x better than the wiimote.

Wand doesn't make sisaxis obsolete. You can't use Wand together with gamepad while Sisaxis can add another input dimention - I'd say folklore was absolutly best usage i have seen.

How can you admit that using it in a particular game was fun then say that it was pointless? If it added enjoyment to the game then it was not pointless. With your argument, in essence, you could say all facits of a game are useless in and of itself. The thumbstick is pointless, you can use the D-pad. The shoulder buttons are pointless you can use the face buttons. Voice acting is pointless you can just use text...

In my opinion the break up of action that the shooting segments brought to Heavenly sword made that game much more enjoyable. They were fun by themselves and it made the boss battles and the journey battles much more enjoyable and much less monotonous. They could have broke the action up with another form of a mini game, but the shooting was very enjoyable and pretty unique for it's genre.

Also motorstorm uses the sixaxis controls and it is pretty fun driving off road with the controls. It also makes the game much more challanging. I can only imagine if they still use it in pacific rift racing your friends using the motion controls. That's just another game on the growing list that uses the sixaxis controls nicely.

OMG hellz no, Sixaxis is STILL great.

Flower, Blas Factor, Savage Moon, Folklore, PS3 Version of Dark Sector, HS, WarHawk, Super Rub O' Dub (yes i own this lulz), and so many more.

So YES its still a great little bonus, BUT this so called "Sixaxis" 2.0 seems to look like it'll replace normal sixaxis for some things, though Sixaxis will still be usable with many things to come Versus XIII aswell.

That was first game that came to mind and it took like 20 posts for someone to mention it. That's sad.

Lol, i know almost all games that has Sixaxis control.

Wtf is wrong with some of you people? Flower is a Recent example of Sixaxis and ALL it's Majesty.

Such Blasphemy... It's Still being used with more then a few games to come to PS3, you just have to look for'um, like Dark Sector, i thought DS was the same as the 360 version but no, it has Sixaxis support for the Glaive, really badass.

But the best examples for the use of Sixaxis would be Folklore, Flower and inFamous. (with inFamous Cole has a Power where you rain down a Storm of lightning and it's controlled 100% by the Sixaxis motion.)

With that said, yes, Sixaxis is still very much used and NOT forgotton.

Well, "irrelevant" here is now as in a feature that is important to the PS3.  it seems like Sony has moved away from it.  Doesn't mean it isn't used, just it doesn't matter in the big scheme of things.  Shoot, I didn't even know you could use Sixaxis in inFAMOUS, and that game has been keeping me busy for hours.

Yeah, its Coles last Power via Vengance... Lightning Storm, it uses 100% Sixaxis to move it anywhere across the field that cole is attacking and its badass.

But, again, it's ONE thing in the game, and it is just plugged in there seemingly at random.  Here we are at the latest release for the system, and SixAxis is still a one-note aftrerthought...

To everyone commenting on my previous post: it's pointless because, while in that ONE instance I found it fun, it's more an afterthought than anything.  "Oh, hey... remember that Sony tried to cut into the Wii hype by shoddily cramming"motion controls" into their hardware...  Stick it in there somewhere!!"  Pointless.
