It means the console price can be cut by $100 and will make the likely hood of a purchase much more likely. FFXIII in Japan and GT5 in EU with a $300 PS3 would increase sales by a good amount. Before anyone says it yes the 360 can drop in price during that time, come with a happy meal or whatever HOWEVER the PS3 would still be at a more affordable price and people would be more likely to go for it.

A $300 PS3 will increase sales however what remains to be seen is how big the bump will be.

I personally don't think the slim will allow Sony to do a $100 pricecut and still make some profit. I'll stand by my $50, and hopefully time will prove me wrong

They'll have the software (GT5) and I'm sure either a new model (slim) or pricecut or maybe even all of that is coming this year.

Even with all that though, Sony never make their projections..

No, no, no. Both GoW3 and FF13 are releasing towards the end of the fiscal year in all other places than Japan, and even so, those titles would not move enough hardware for this to ever come true. GT5 is the only one of those with the kind of power you think it has, and that alone is not enough.

I don't think Gran Turismo 5 is coming out this year. Sounds like Gran Turismo PSP will be out this year, but GT5 not until 2010.

If they announced a price cut now for June you think many would get a PS3? A better period for a price cut would be September/oktober.

Btw sales in Japan will be probably more than 45% higher than last year especially if FFXIII relaese at the end of the year.

(1) Sony still need a large install base for longer term profit from the PS3.

(2) Shareholders like to see a business can meet the targets it sets for itself ( obviously not at the risk of making a loss)

Not sure, but GT will have to come out this year and some kind of price drop will have to happen.

.8 in 1 months is not bad..... Now lets look here..
lets say it keeps this track til October.....that 4 million... now add a possible 5-6 during the Holiday season.....9-10 million. Now add 1 million cuz of FFXIII releasing in Japan...10.4-11.4 million by the end of this year.

If either FFXIII, God of War3 or GT5 releases before the end of February ( or a combination of some kind) then Sony's in the clear...

 

Update: just realized it's a month not 2 .

Its not gonna happen. As someone recently mentioned Sony never reach their projections. Also in the US PS3 sales are usually -50k a week, Japan has them creeping back down to single digit territory, and EU is about where US numbers are. The software mentioned minus GoW3, will certainly provide a boost, but one capable of turning -40% into +45%? nah.



Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:


If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.
