Does anyone know, is the Conduit online mode friend codes only or can you play with random people from across the globe?

At this rate, i highly doubt it's going to happen. After the big boys are done reviewing it (Gamespot, IGN, 1UP etc.) and all the others (Zentendo, Worth Playing, HonestGamers, to name a few) are done, i think it'll be lucky to settle around the early 80's or very late 70's worst case scenario. With the reviews we've had already, i cannot see this game averaging any higher than 85% maximum on Metacritic or GameRankings.
Let's just hope to holy hell it stays above 80%, because if it goes under, we are not gonna hear the end of it.

random people can be done yes, just no wiispeak unless it's a friend or friend's friend, you can add them to the friend list on the fly too to enable wiispeak with them if needed.

Splendid, any game with 80%+ is considered amazing. Can't see why some people only go for 90%+. Regardless of ONM's 76%, they said that it gets repetitive, but that doesn't usually bother me so it could be a 90% game for me.
Buying in 2015: Captain toad: treasure tracker,
mario maker
new 3ds
yoshi woolly world
zelda U
majora's mask 3d
Adding people on the fly pretty much negates Nintendo's original vision of the Friends codes, but I'm down with it! I think the Friends code idea has held back online gaming for the Wii immeasureably. Sure, companies can get around it (like EA has done), but the perception and stigma have remained, and it's turned off some hardcore gamers who might've bought a Wii.
Hardware is only a means to enjoy great games!
This game has seen really solid reviews. It looks like it's definitely worth buying, especially for multiplayer. Gives me high hopes for High Voltage
